Hmmm. What were their names? Did they just buy a boat?
I missed the start - somebody tell me they actually have the money to spend?
    I am gobsmacked.
25k car for a kid who openly doesn't even appreciate it? £350 for a handbag "to see her smile"? I think I need to have a few words with my parents - I suddendly feel like a neglected child! Do I need to report my parents to you Lynz??? :-)
Back to my scarf knitting in prep for Christmas.

I wonder if the kids with weird names would rather have their own rooms/space to be in rather than their so called fashionable clothes. Hope they don't end up with bad backs in the future from not having proper mattresses.

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, were their role models from Footballers Wives?

Hope someone from the Benefits Agency took a note...

I did not see this program as I don't have a telly.

But read an article about the parents that spend £500 a month on "designer clothes" notice the commas.

I thought as well funny that the father of some of the children is living around the corner and she was only working 10 hours a week. I wonder where all the money comes from to pay for that.

Anyway I saw an advert for that program and some of the other families going we have worked hard for this money so why should we not flash it about.

Personally if you have to flash cash like that it proves you have no class and to me it is very tacky. As to me the people with the most amount of money will not be flashing it about.

Read the millionare next door or rich dad poor dad.

But if it improves their sad empty little lives then let then get on with it.

I have never been so glad that I am just me and not interested in all that total rubbish that they've surrounded themselves in! How very very very sad!

Despite sounding rather silly, a lot of "normal" people still exhibit less extreme afflications of the same behaviour. It's the confusion between owning something and really being something. I find it worrying that people expect me to draw conclusions about them just because of what they own. I also find it funny that they probably apply the same silliness to judge what I own. Luckily I don't care, since happiness is a personal thing and I have the last laugh since I could afford to do lots of things but would rather not waste the money.

I had a lecture off my brother the other day, basically saying that I should buy a newer car rather than than a slightly battered old BMW. My view is that I really like my car and that's what matters to me; his view is that I should buy a car that "reflects my position" or something like that.

The thing is, I know that I'm confident in myself. I see it as a sign of insecurity to be really obsessed about having to have the right possesions.

My father used the expression "obviously doing well for himself" about someone the other day, because they had a caravan or something in the garden. I find that funny. Anyone can spend money that they don't really have to buy things that might make then appear well off. It's stupid though.
    Happy chappy

We don't have loads of money, but we're a happy loving family. If i had that amount of money my little boys would still be taught values, and be made to realise that you work hard for what you want. More money would be nice but if i had to choose between that and happiness i would chose happiness everytime.

    Tom,

I totally agree. I would rather that I was judge on what I do for others rather than what I own.

And why does the fact that you own 42" telly mean that you better than me. Means you have spent more money than me. I would rather put that money in my ISA than waste it on a telly.

That is why TK Max and places like that do really well. As people think it is sign of how wealthy they are by what they wear own, and drive.

I do believe that there is nothing wrong with owning nice things. As long as you are aware as to why you own nice things. If it is because they look nice then fair enough. But if it is about one up man ship. Then sorry you are very sad in my book.

Me and my husband moan about having no money etc. But we are not as badly off as I make out due to savings. But I am not about to blow the saving to get a new car etc. As I want that cushion for when we are older.

Problem is nowadays people don't know the value of money. As they can buy it on credit. But you pay out for your car /house/TV in crisp new notes. Think you might have a change of heart then.

Credit cards and loans have made it to easy and our children pick these things up and think they don't have to work and can have it all now. We have expectations and I think for a lot of people they are way to high.

Is it little wonder that people are up in their necks in debt. As it is seen as normal and ok. I was brought up with the lesson of you only borrow money to buya house. I did buy a car with a loan but never again.
