Courier lost mobile phone and laptop!

Hi,
I'm posting this up on behalf of my girlfriend. All information provided is as far as I understand it to be.
My girlfriend ordered a contract phone and laptop as a gift from an online retailer, who she rang up to place the order. The problem is that the mobile phone and laptop is for a family member, althrough my girlfriend is going to pay the bills for the phone and she told this to the lady. She got told that she would have to arrange it to be delivered to her family member's address, which is far away from where she lives so we thought we would use a courier. So, the mobile phone and parcel arrived at her house, and it was unopened/tampered with.
We chose a courier that I had used several times before, and that she used once. As part of the service we chose, the courier company provides the labels for the delivery address. The collection of the parcel went relatively smoothly, apart from the driver managing to guess the contents and which my girlfriend said was correct. Fast forward a few days later, and the parcel has arrived somewhere else (apparently the warehouse of the online retailer)!
My girlfriend has been advised to fill in a claim form, since they have tried to re-collect the parcel but it's nowhere to be found. To process their claim, they want a document saying how much the mobile phone and laptop was but since this was done on the phone we don't have anything.
Really would appreciate some advise as she has contacted both the courier company, and online retailer during work time and she is getting very stressed over both work and the missing parcel.
Cheers,

Not got much to do with telecoms this.
It seems like you've carefully worded your post so as not to blame yourself. It also seems you left your very expensive property in the hands of some tatty courier company. If that's the case then your claim is with them only. It's got nothing to do with anyone else.0
