greenflag/directline recovery

i had car recovery cover with greenflag via directline insurance, they were good value for money but as the years went on they were becoming more expensive even though i had not made a claim in over 2 years.i seen a better deal with asda and call ed directine to cancel.
directline said i would have to pay the policy in full, then they would give me refund,i could not afford to do this and abouta month later i just canceled the direct debit, they sent out letter a month later stating they had canceled my policy as they wer not able to collect payment, now they have brought in a dept collection agent for the balance on the policy for the full year, even though they stated that i was no longer covered....unless you pay in full dont bother with directline recovery, they will also charge you a cancel fee even if you have payed in full at the start of your policy,,,told the dept collector to sod off and take me to court if they want.,,,whats the point in me paying the policy in full only to be given a refund, makes no sence, just cancel and charge me the cancel fee, simple!!!!!!!!!!!

All breakdown policies do not give a refund if you cancel the cover mid way, if your paying instalments they expect you to pay the remaining instalments. (Your new provider will operate the same way)0

Ok that bit does not make sense to me. At one time they were the only provider that offered a refund if it was paid in full providing you had not had a call out (if you called them out but got yourself going again is considered a call out if the recovery service had left). If you was paying on direct debit it use to be the case that you paid for the time on cover.
This was 3 years ago when i use to work there so it may of changed now. Have a read of the latest t/c.I like to think I can help but its for discussion purposes only so if I get it wrong please feel free to correct me.0
