I had an old linksys router and upgraded to a wireless - G model no. WRT54GS, the old router connects no problem but every time I run the setup cd for the new one it gets as far as the internet connection check and sais "the router is not able to conect to the internet. Try turning your cable/DSL modem OFF and back ON agai. Do you want to try again?" I'm with telewest so that means I have a static ip doesn't it? it's just because sometimes when I check it the last digit is either 1 or 0, anyone any ideas??

this could be a problem with mac addresses..
i know this can happen with NTL
basically the router has a hardware MAC address and ntl use this to make sure that it is actually you that is connecting.. if ya get a new router it will have a different mac address and so may well not work..
I dont know if telewest work on the same principle but possibly do.. get intouch with telewest and ask them, if so they may well need to reset it at there end to allow the new mac address of the router
also as for static and dynamic Ip, i wouldnt tell the router you have a static ip, usually the isp will always provide you with the same ip each time you need to reconnect if you have static ip supplied so even if ya left it as dynamic you would still get the same address0 -
I had the same problem, linksys told me that they've had trouble with some of the disks they produced not working properly. I emailed their tech support and they got back to me within 24 hours with step by step instructions for manually setting it up.0

May be this steps will help:
1. Turn off the modem & old router
2. Replace the old router with the new router
3. Turn on the modem
4. Turn on the router
5. Turn on your PC
You do not need to run any setup from CD. Your PC should get it IP address automatically from the new router (unless if you've set your PC to use fixed IP address).0 -
problem sorted, linksy adviser got me to turn off security and it worked ok.0
