Hi all.
I've just received a call from someone claiming to be from First Direct's Credit Card fraud dept....who asked me to verify who I was before he would continue!
Being naturally suspicious, I asked this man how I could be sure he was calling from FD...and to my astonishment, he went on to tell me about a number of methods I could use - including me asking him for some letters from my mother's maiden name. I did that, and he told me them!
I must say this was extremely refreshing and re-assuring. I was really impressed by the contact from FD - and the issue was resolved quickly.
They seem very on the ball.

Its a HSBC thing. Whenever they call you, they start with 'we'll give you the beginning of your postcode, please complete it' - also they say you were born in MONTH can you tell me the year and day and finally they ask for the random password letters when you're happy it is them.
Its called 2 way screening so you both know you're talking to the right people!2010 - year of the troll

But surely a fraudster could easily find out your mother's maiden name if they wanted to? And use that to trick you into giving out more info...0
