Acne Problems

Options
Hi
From my early teens I have suffered from acne (nothing major but its still there) Now my skin cleared up a lot just after I gave birth but now it just seems horrible (which makes me assume its hormonal)

Now after some googling I have seen that people use oil of evening primose oil capsules and this seems to help. Do any MSE'ers do this? Does it work?

And also I have noticed that they use Rose Hip oil to help with acne scarring, anyone do this? Checked the price and its a little expensive but if i works then ill try it.

Any info? Thanks :j

Just a bump, sorry! Interested in Rosehip Oil as well.
  • Have you seen your doctor about it? Maybe antibiotics would be best?

Hi, I've also suffered from acne since I was a teenager, over the years I've tried almost everything from the pill to various prescribed treatments and over the counter creams containing benzoyl peroxide ( it caused extreme dryness). What frustrates me is the scars they leave as if getting a spot was'nt enough!

It's only recently that I have started to see an improvement and it actually does coincide with me using rosehip oil every other night (I use liquid gold treatment on the alternate nights as recommended) this has helped control the acne and improve the scars. I also use a spot cream (which does not contain benzoyl peroxide) for a few days every month when I do get the odd spot.

I did have about 5 treatments of microdermabrasion which helped imorive the scars and I also try to give myself a facial every two weeks or so, as I can't afford to have one at a salon. This involves exfoliating, then steaming and finally a mud mask.

    Hope this helps!
  • I've not tried rosehip oil on my acne scars but did try Bio-oil after reading on the internet that it was good for this (even if you have acne).
After using it for about 3-4 months I suddenly broke out in the most painful and nasty acne that I've ever had, within 2 weeks my cheeks were covered in large pus filled spots. At the time I thought this was due to stress, so after it cleared up with antibiotics I tried the Bio-oil again months later only to have exactly the same thing happen.
My doctor wonders if it's acne rosacea but in light of what happened to me I would be wary of putting an oil on your face to combat scarring if you are prone to spots. I really do think now that the oil took a while to have such an bad effect upon my skin. Not sure if this is just me or if anyone has experienced anything similar.

Hi, ive tried antibiotics. They put me on Erithmycin (sp?) but I was originally put on to high a dose. I was so ill for about 3 days its really put me off taking them ever again. Was also on a lotion (Zineryt) but it majorly dried my skin out.

I find that the sun helps my skin but after my "skin scan" at the weekend im never going out in sunlight again!!! Ok not that bad but still apparently a lot of pigmentation.

I think my problem is that I'm allergic to lots of stuff (especially anything containing Lanolin i.e. E45 cream) so I'm wondering if natural's best.

In regards to the Bio Oil; I used this while pregnant but never on my face. I can understand what your saying about putting oil on your face but the oil cleansing seems to work for some . I'm actually at the point where i'll try anything lol .... well not quite!

I just thought I'd add that using really harsh products on your skin can often make things worse. I've used products which have claimed to clean my skin gently when actually, I'd have been better off using paint stripper for all the good they did. Many of them create even more oil and sebum etc.

I'd seriously think of giving Liz Earle's cleanse and polish for oily/normal skin a go. It's pretty gentle, as far as I know it doesn't have many chemicals in it and you still get a clean face without scrubbing.

I know how you feel...i had acne for years and still get spots regulary but nothing like i used to, but i took 6 years of antibiotics..which is scarey  but at the time not a lot was known about the damage they do. I have ME now and i always wonder if this weakened my system. Won't take them at all now unless life threatening. Funny thing is most of the time on them i still had quite bad spots

The only things i found that helped was the pill Dianette but had to come off it due to bad side effects lol. And i used to feel Clinque's turnaround cream made my skin look better as it has salicylic acid in it to help cell renewal, other than that i used to kane the sunbeds to hide the spots best i could.

Other than that not a lot helped, i used to take supplements and was very health conscious to the point of being anal, but it never seemed to help my skin. But after my child was born it seemed to change things a bit for the better...

I don't think it has lanolin in it.

I've looked up the ingredients on the back of the tube and as far as I can see it does not contain lanolin. If you look at the link above, you can buy the Cleanse and Polish in a 30ml tester size for £4.50.

Cheers I might just try this then. And if I like it then it will be just in time for someone to by me a nice big bottle as an Xmas pressie!

Still trying to research rosehip oil tho.
