Currys- Nothing but problems

Options
Hi,

This is my first post and I was wondering if anyone can help me.

I ordered a dishwasher from Currys on Monday 19th and have had nothing but problems.

The dishwasher was delivered on Thursday 22nd but I had also paid for it to be fitted and the old one to be taken away.

The delivery man told me he was not trained to fit it and said to call up Currys who would send someone else out to fit it and take the other one away...

Nearly 6 hours on and off thephone to Currys and still nothing. They told me they couldn't get in touch with the depot centre so there was nothiong they could do.

Eventually, at midday on Friday 23rd we heard from them. They can't fit the old one as the cold water pipe is too short. Fine with me as long as they take the old one away. They told me the old one would be picked up today (Monday 26th) before 13:30.

14:30 and still no sign of the collection so I phone up again. They told me that they came to deliver at 13:10 but no one was in and they left a pink slip.

Now firstly, this is an office that they are picking up from and the doors are open from 8:30-16:00. All they have to do is push the door open.

The womanI spoke to was very rude and arrogant and told me that the delivery driver left the pink slip because no one was here. I argued for about 45 minutes that someone was definately here and all they need to do to gain entry is open the door.

Eventually she told me she would get head office to call me back. Now, I already have head office number so said I would call them. She told me there was no way I could have there number and I was defiantely wrong. After her talking to me like I was a child, I hung up and called the number I had for Head Office which, I was right, was the correct number.

It had been nearly an hour and I am still waiting for head office to call me back (''I will make sure someone will call you back within 10 minutes'').

Is there anything I can do apart from calling them back and havoing to spend 10 minutes giving the same details I have given 100 times over?

Sorry for the essay but I have had so much trouble with them I am deflated!

Thanks for any help

Sophie x

Could I ask the first four digits of your order number? I think I can guess which delivery centre that would be.

Either the delivery man is talking rubbish, or the delivery centre has made a grave mistake in routing an installation for a contract driver who can't do them. All deliveries with installation should be done at once and you should never need to call to arrange installation after delivery.

    Hey,

Give consumer direct a call, they are ever so helpful and will give you advice on what your next step is. They would probably advise you to put everything in writing and send it recorded signed for, basically stating what has happened and what you have paid for.

Another thing you could do prior to this is arrive at your local store( if possible) with your receipt and speak to the manager.

    Good luck
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Completely agree when I had my fridge freezer delivered and paid for the old one to be taken away, it was done at the same time. If you have paid for this service you should have this service and nothing else. If the delivery man could not do it they should have sent another delivery man who could. I would be asking for this to be carried out straight away and some compensation for the inconvenience.

I agree. You should definitely be compensated for not receiving the service you paid for.

Generally if deliveries go wrong, I refund the delivery charge without hesitation (unless it is the customer's fault, obviously). Trouble is, if you have more to do (e.g. installation or collection), it can't be done immediately as refunding the delivery charge would also cancel the rest of your order.

I don't understand what the OP is saying about "they couldn't fit the old one" - is it a typo and the fact that it couldn't be installed was because the cold pipe was too short to make a connection. Assuming we're talking about the water supply, do they mean the hose, or do they mean the copper pipe? What to their T&Cs say about installation - usually it is restricted to decoupling the old and coupling in the new. In my Currys days, there would be no attempt to mess about with the installed copper pipework or waste pipes. You can purchase longer hoses from the likes of B&Q, Wickes, Screwfix etc....., you'll just need a monkey wrench to ensure its nice and tight.

But anyway, todays a new day. Cup of camomile tea, get back on to head office. If needed, pin a sign to the door when the delivery driver is due to return to tell him to press the handle down and open the door.

Don't currys' drivers carry mobile phones these days? Surely they should have called when they were unable to raise you to effect collection?

Was there a pink slip or were they yanking your chain?

Currys deliveries are crap. I had a washing machine delivered a few months ago, which I was fitting myself and had arranged for the old one to be taken away.

However the delivery driver failed to remove the old one because the sales agent in Curry's hadn't ticked a box, or somesuch. Told me I had to talk to Currys and they would send someone else out.

Currys then refused because the salesman hadn't ticked the box there was 'nothing they could do'.. yeah right.

We eventually had to go into the shop and they gave us our delivery charge back, and we had to get the old machine taken away by the council!

From this experience I believe Currys delivery/removal/installation service to be an absolute shambles backed up by a company who treats their customers with nothin bit distain.

I shall never buy anything from Curry's again.

Mark, although you'll never be back, the process has now changed and there's no button to tick for scrap collection, it's added automatically on every order.

That's good to know. At least they seem to have grasped that this is causing them problems. Qudos to Currys for that at least.

However it still remains that the way they reacted to a mistake made by their own staff was to put the blame and responsibility of fixing the problem onto myself which is downright shoddy.

Yes, what happens far too much is drivers not picking up the scrap, telling the customer "Someone will be along tomorrow to pick it up" and then not rearranging a pickup, leaving the customer in the lurch.
