Your petition reads:

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to impliment a
Californian style of governance so Each and every bill has to
be passed in a refarendum

MP's are and should be Representatives of the people and should
be the voice of the people too However, They have now stopped
listening to the public and it is now time for the government
to impliment a Californian style of governance so that each and
every bill is put before the public as propositions that the
public vote on. Now is the time for imigration, Bailouts,
Budgets, Taxes, Law and order, Europe and all things that
impact on the public to be decided by the public not MP's Whom
are there only to line their own pockets raping and pillaging
the taxpayer yet they do not speak for the public that voted
them into power. Billions of £'s wasted on bailouts Cuts in
Public services because of bad management of public funds and
out of control imigration are only a small number of the
reasons it is now time for the PM to be strong, Prove he is not
weak and to change government policy before the next General
election and impliment this into law so We the Public will be
voting knowing we will be heard.

Whilst I am in favour of referendums on the passing of bills, I don't think California is a good example. They are in a complete financial mess.

The problem with referendums, is that over half the voting population can't even be bothered to turn out to vote at a General Election. Then believe they have some God given right to an opinion.

A high percentage of those that do, probably couldn't tell their a**e from their elbow and vote BNP.

By the same token, I think most would not understand the full implications of a bill or the pro's and con's and long term implication. voting in a referendum is about making an informed decision and not knee-jerk reactions on hot topics. The likelihood is that our sensationalist media would have a huge influence on UK referendums.

I vote for people who I believe are knowledgeable enough to make those decisions on my behalf, individuals who I believe will be able to act on facts I do not have access to, and those that are better placed to understand and read legislation. Before this country looks at referendums, I think they need to address the fact that so few people go out and vote.

dreamypuma, I'm totally with you on this. I can just imagine the votes:

Monday: Should more be spent on health care: Yes vote wins
Tuesday: Should more be spent on education: Yes vote wins
Wednesday: Should more be spent on transport: Yes vote wins
Thursday: Should government borrowing go up: No vote wins
Friday: Should taxes go up: No vote wins
  • most people are uninformed would make shortsighted decision . that being said if people had to vote for things that could impact on them then more would pay attention and cast their vote. the fact that we vote people in based on what they say will be delivered but they simply turn their backs on their prommis as soon as they take office is why people can no longer be bothered to vote. I have yet to miss a vote in over 20 years. Also I agree California's financial status is a problem when it comes to using them as an example however as my wife is from San Francisco And having lived there for two years I know some more of the facts that do not hit the news here. all the fires each year do not get fed money and have cut deep into the state budgets, along with it being the second most populated in USA and the state has to pay most of the money for border control etc. but turn out for elections is so high due to the people feeling like they matter and are not just a walking tax asset of the state.
for the people whom are spending time looking at the shallow thing as in spelling and grammer i am disabled wheelchair user and dyslexic but still had the passion to do something whilst you just attack and ridicule people just sitting on your !!! waiting for others to do things. put the venum into making the world a better place and stop putting people down.

    Well said lostbuyer.

It's good to see individuals who are passionate enough to do something about the state of affairs in this country.

I wish people would use their right to a voice through the ballot box

  • Surely the point of electing people to local councils, parliament etc. is for them to make decisions on our behalf. Having referenda constantly only undermines decision making adds further costs. Look at the Lisbon referendum in Ireland; they kept asking the public until the government got the answer they wanted.
  • paddy hand on heart do you trust them to do the right thing? you do know that no party offers free votes to the MP's they are all preasurised into towing the party line no matter what the voting public want. California only pass bills every now and again. not like one at a time. the last one had around 300 items on it for people to vote on.

We should be the ones to choose if the MP's should get a pay rise not themselves. after all it is OUR money they are spending. we should also have a say in any assets that are to be sold off as they have a direct effect on how the world rates us when it comes to credit worthyness. MR Brown has shown with his gold sell off he is not as good at getting the best price for the country as he makes out.

we should have our say on europe as have many other countries. immigration too. look at all the people coming in from france, they should be forced to seek help from the french as it is a safe country and international law states such but do the french stop them no, do we say hang on a minute france? no we do nothing but waste money having to stop them.
