Cheap London to Edinburgh Travel?

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on here so I hope I'm doing this right! I'm trying to organise a birthday surprise that involves travelling from London to Edinburgh on the 4th December, returning on the 6th. I know that train, plane and automobile prices increase at the weekends but I'm still struggling to find fares for under £200 for 2 people. I'm not sure if this is considered a good price but in my eyes it's quite a lot of money just to get from A-B!

Anyone have any experience in beating the system to get cheaper deals? I've searched through this site and tried all the tricks but am still struggling.

Failing that - does anyone know when any of the cheap flight companies have their sales? Or national rail?

Please help - I'm worried I'm going to run out of time and end up spending thousands...

there are flights from Luton to Edinburgh for your dates from £52 return. If you look on skyscanner.net you can search LON to EDI and it will give you all the options, some reasonable fared from Gatwick too.

Have you considered using a Coach, takes about 9 hours :eek: but it's dirty cheap

Hard to get cheap airfares on the weekend. Through the week there are often good deals with Ryanair, Easyjet.

Can't you travel Saturday to Monday as you can travel for £100 in total on the train

You aren't looking at the total price and assuming it's for one person?

No good deals with Ryanair from London to Edinburgh as they don't fly that route

Just a bit of a warning if you decide to fly up, unless you have got family or friends to drop you off at the airport then always bring into account the cost of getting to the Airport if going by rail or the costs of car parking if driving.

Best tip is to see if it's cheaper to travel to Glasgow and get the train from there into Edinburgh. And, I've yet to get a seat on a train going south from Edinburgh on a sunday so do consider monday.
