Hi I had a thread about a week ago on buying a laptop. Gonna buy tonight and would just like to know which people would pick out of these 2:

TOSHIBA EQUIUM M50-216 from dixons or

Toshiba Satellite Pro M50 from dabs

I am looking at these as they are both lightweight. They are also both the same price with discount codes applied (£540). Final thoughts? I think I am going to get the dixons one as it has better CPU and longer battery life. Can always upgrade the HDD later if I need to.

Thanks

I'd go for the first one from dixons personally :)

that cpu is an absolute beauty , and for the price it seems like a much better deal than the other one you posted.

Or have a look at this HERE at Morgan. The only downside is it doesnt have XP Pro.

I just bought a Toshiba Satelite Pro L10 on their auction site for £400 Centrino processor and XP Pro. It only had 256meg of RAM but that was soon sorted.

Thanks but I want a lightweight and smallish lappie...the ones I'm looking at are 2.2KGs while the other one will be nearer 3KG.

I would go for the Equium, better cpu sells it for me, the hard drive is smaller but that can be replaced easily the cpu is alot more dificult to upgrade.

If you can stomach a Dell the 640m for £586 has a very good spec:

    Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2300 (1.66 GHz)
Windows® XP XP Home Edition, SP2
    512MB 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM (2x256)
    80GB (5,400 rpm) Hard Drive
    14.1" W Screen WXGA (1280 x 800) TFT Display
    24xCDRW/8x DVD Combo Drive
    6 Cell 53WHr Primary Battery
Internal 56K v.92 Capable Fax Modem
Intel® Pro WLAN 3945 Internal Wireless (802.11a/b/g 54 Mbps) for Duo Processors

    A bit more detail here

DVD drive is a let down but processor is v good (IMHO)

Plus a further 5.5% cashback from Quidco
