The Royal Mail strike is hardly an unforeseeable event - it is splashed all over the press.

You know from past experience when your payment is due, so you also knew that your statement had been delayed. You could have simply phoned the credit card company or checked online, and made the payment on time, and avoided these complications.

Sorry to sound harsh, but it is your responsibility to ensure you make the minimum payment each month and you failed to do this.

Now, lesson learned, set up a Direct Debit for the Minimum Amount and never have to worry about missing another payment.

May I ask which credit card is involved?

Depending on the timing of reports, it's possible that your payment still arrived in time so that your account wasn't in arrears when they report (even though you missed the deadline).

Else I don't see how they can amend your history. They are reporting a statement of fact and to do otherwise would be a misrepresentation. It's not a "punishment" to report your late payment. Remember there are probably loads of "on time" payments recorded there too.

I don't think it is a big deal to miss the odd payment. Everybody makes mistakes sometimes. One late payment doesn't destroy your rating. If you want an unblemished record, then you have to be more careful about remembering your due-by dates. If you can't remember and don't have easy online access then you can always setup a DD - which is the standard reply in these forums when people have this problem.

At least you got the charge back!
  • Even if it came late mine is issued 28 days b4 I need to make a payment and I can't believe it was over 28 days late!!???

My Capital One statement is dated 28th, arrives with me at beginning of month & is due on the 9th, so a postage delay could easily cause a problem.

Although I do have a minimum payment d/d, so not really a problem.
