Connecting Camera to PC Query

Hi, first post on here and am starting with what may be a daft question but it's driving me mad.
I have a HP Photosmart R507 digital camera which was supplied with a USB lead. However the only port that I can connect it to on the desktop is the main port so is already in use.
Basically I need another lead with one of the 'normal' size (total lack of tech understanding sorry) usb attachements on it, rather than the smaller squarer one that is on the lead supplied.
Are these easy to get hold of? I have been to the big electrical warehouses and a) there's never anyone free to ask and b) they don't seem to have what I need on the display racks. I won't go back to my local PC independent supplier as he was really dismissive and condescending towards me - but i'm the kind of person he could make money out of by helping me!
Would appreciate help!
Thanks.........

Do you mean a USB hub (like a multi socket thing?) If you do you can get them here http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=12559834528&action=c2hvd3N1YmNhdGVnb3J5X3NlYXJjaA==&cat_uid=35&stid=4&_LOC=UK&gclid=CKqhlrz6lYUCFR5EMAodVRjsKQWork like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0

Remove the usb device that is currently plugged into the PC and connect the camera. Once you have finished with the camera, you can plug your other device back in.
Alternatively, you can buy a USB Hub which will allow you to connect multiple USB devices together.0 -
Thanks for those quick replies! I will have a look at the site and get a different hub (the one I have only caters for one size of usb). Will let you know how I get on.
Thanks again
PS Martin is on R2 now making odd noises - is this normal?!?!?!0 -
With USB leads I think the USB connectors are all a standard size, the variation comes with the connector to the device. Are you sure that the other port you seem to be refering to as being spare on your PC isn't a firewire port. Firewire ports generally take a smaller squarer connector, but again on my Sony there are two different sizes for this. I don't think your camera will connect via firewire if this is the case and as other people say you would be best getting a multi point USB hub if you need to connect more than one usb device simulateneously.Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. You can get USB hubs in the likes of Tesco and Asda nowadays quite reasonably priced so you can have a look on the shelves and see if they have what you want and take it back if its not the right thing.0

nothing like a bit of visual aid!
you want to connect to usb, and only usb for your camera:
USb ports are circled red, thats what you want to connect to. if you don't have a free one, like everyone said, buy a usb hub, which often look something like:
circled blue is the firewire port, which you can't connect your camera to, and circled yellow is the network port, for connecting your comp to other computers (and routers etc).
hope it helps."If you really want to hurt your parents and you don't have nerve enough to be homosexual, the least you can do is go into the arts."0
