Tbh I struggle to have much sympathy for people who clearly cant afford it who go to these companies and buy big massive LCD tv's. Whats wrong with their old one or a cheap £10 CRT off ebay or from a local 2nd hand shop.

    Hi,

I can understand how companies like BAYV are in business, and I sypathise with the OP. In effect, it is a continuation of the 'prudential loans man' of the 70's and 80's, but much more aggresive, tying a customer down for years on goods the customer doesn't need.......the want overtakes the need to a lot of BAYV TV customers, and BAYV successfully exploit this want....

A high proportion of BAYV TV customers (no offence intended to the OP) are so desperate to own the latest and greatest that they are quite prepared to cough up £2k over XX years for a TV worth £700, and BAYV know this. They know fine well that if the woman next door has a 50" telly, their customer wants a 51" one, and will get it by hook or by crook.

They also know that after 2 years, some of the more vulnerable TV customers will get sick of their 'out of date' TV, and can be sold another one with the greatest of ease (even though the first one is not paid for). This effectively locks the customer in for life. However BAYV are in a very risky business - they are effectively offering credit to people without a credit check, without a deposit, and a moderate chance that a customer will be "burgled";) within a few weeks. (I am certainly NOT incinuating the OP would do this at all!!)

....I know all this because it was all fully explained to me when I had a sales job interview with BAYV around 5 years ago. The interviewer actually asked whether I would be happy to sell expensive goods to people who they knew couldnt afford it. I turned the job down because the salary was rotten, and I felt morally uncomfortable with the setup.
