Well engineer has been and replaced wiring from outside right through to the test socket, the cable that was in hasnt been in use by BT for years and years so in theory when i was charged £125 to reconnect the cables should have been updated then! Never mind...as the problem was with the wires coming outside into the test socket then its BTs resposibility so should be no charge to me. :)

When they reactivate your phone they normally just reconnect at the exchange, not usually necessary to do any work at the property.
So damp was not a factor?

well if it was the engineer certainly didnt mention it, he just said that the wiring was old and he was to replace it. When we were reconnected an engineer came to the house first as they couldnt just reconnect us as normal, thats why were we charged £125 to reconnect as if the line was still active as such then we could have reconnected free of charge.

The £125 is the reconnection charge, you used to pay that whether a home visit is necessary or not. If it is, you don't pay any extra.

Yiou really would have a problem then. You only get 50v when the line is RINGING, not the few volts from a looped line. Your problem is unless you call them, you'll be paying line rental for a non-working line, which is kinda pointless. :)

Wrong. A line will sit at 48-50VDC and around 80VAC when ringing. I am an Openreich engineer.

Would that be part of BT's Germany operation?
