what else would you ascribe it to ?
I'd assume most of the people on this forum are trying to maximise their returns if that's greedy. I'm as greedy as anyone else but fortunate to have never as yet been scammed, never needed to contact an ombudsman to complain, and never needed to sue anyone; probably because I instinctively look even a gift horse in the mouth. ( I last spoke to a boiler-room scammer two days ago who called asking to speak to my wife. She's always the target so I assume she's got a shareholding that marks her out as potentially gullible.)
Look at the number of decent people scammed/misled by financial advisers of different types, especially the "advisers" working for banks who helpfully offer to "review your finances". Those aren't people who are unusually greedy. I know a number of people who even now don't realise how they've been ripped off in return for a cup of coffee. In my experience, those most easily taken in are those too decent to realise how ruthless someone with a smile can be to get their hands on their money.0 -
I agree with all you've written.
I've no problem with people being greedy - that's what capitalism is built on. However, its that greed that leads to people doing stupid things like buying shares from a guy who sounds nice over the phone.0 -

It could be a number of things really; lonelyness, boredom, wanting to please, the phase of the moon. All I'm suggesting is that the people who fall for it are not necessarily any more 'greedy' than the next person; just dropped their defenses and unluckily got caught that's all.0 -
Miles Stewart from "Sun Worlwide" cold called offering 1,500 shares in Trina Solar Ltd for US$83,000. The call lasted 20 minutes and sounded plausible. The caller was very insistant to establish an initial transaction which did not materialise.
Online checks for cold call scams & boiler rooms identified the call as being less than earnest.
The call and details were logged with Operation Archway (London Police- Fraud) who responded within 24hrs.0 -
Another message from these stories is NEVER give your personal details out, particularly phone numbers. I never get any sales/scamming or marketing calls because I never give my number out. Only my credit card companies/banks have it for fraud prevention (with the express instruction that I'm opted out of marketing). Everybody else I give the number 01234567890, with apologies to anyone who has that number (!) Ask yourself, does the company you are ordering a CD from really need your phone number ? The company you are giving your number to may be legit, but they may sell your details on or have poor security (i.e. only takes an employee with a memory stick to take the data away and sell it...)0

dear,
Don't go Further with that, cause that is a great fraud.I had this mistake.Trust me.If need document for their email and contact,i have that. Thanks and be careful.Hi,
I've been called by a company in Tokyo called Sun Worldwide and they seemed legit over the phone and I asked them to buy some shares in a company called Sinovac on my behalf. I started to get a little worried about how legit they were when their bank account details were listed as Excel Gold Limited, an account in Cyprus!
Has anyone heard about them? Can I trust them with my money? I have already verbally confirmed the order, does that mean I'm liable?
Thanks0 -
