Ah, I've never used online shopping so can't comment on how it applies there.

I find that it's pretty rare in store that the labels not give the price per item and per kg etc, although you are right that the they should sort out the units properly and have consistency (not have some per kg and some per 100g).

I can't see the brands being too happy if the labels were *too* honest though! The special 'end-of-aisle' offers rely on impulse purchases and they probably wouldn't be too impressed if the labels said something like "This brand is on offer at £1 per kg, but brand X in aisle 23 is only £0.80 per kg". ;)

Having said that, I have seen occassions where comparable labels have been on show, but I have watched people blindly buying their usual products without actually looking at the labels in front of them.

I will change it. Previous posters have understood what I meant, however you are clearly struggling with it.

You clearly saw that I knew what you meant as I was querying when it became acceptable to use instead of "/" or "per". However you are correct that I am struggling, I am struggling to understand why one would say something wrong when you can say something right

I do agree with you btw. Just bought 500g of couscous for 61p, don't think I'd like to buy 1kg for £1.38. Others that are messed up include Tesco Value Oats, and Value Mince (although only barely)

I don't mind you pointing out a mistake, I like to do things properly.
The language you use is just a bit odd. Since when using x instead of / has become 'unacceptable' rather than a simple mistake? You make it sound like it hides something sinister. Text Speak maybe?

My local Sainsburys sells bottles of Abbot Ale for £1.49 each or on multibuy at 2 for £3.00.
  • Oh its that time of year again when the supermarkets think that we want to buy Christmas Pudding every week. I went to Saisbury;s today only to find that the normal things I buy had been removed. These seem to include the basic brands and smaller tubs ie fromage frais in order to encourage you to buy the more expensive and larger sized tubs. I dread to think how much more I could spend in a week (had if fallen for it) only buying larger amounts of food that will just rot in the fridge. I am now shopping around and will forget Sainsbury for a while.
  • I think its a case of buyer beware? Spotted dozens of those of late. I shop online, loo rolls etc much cheaper to buy the smaller pack.

Just bought some washing up liquid and for the same price I now get 450ml instead of 500! When I saw the new bottle I know straight away!
I use Surcare (because someone in my family has allergies), but I've checked other brands and they have done the same!

Or just don't line the pockets of the large supermarkets and just support your local independent retailers if you still have them. If not - you should have supported them at the time (and if you did, shame on others).

It seems bizarre that people are complaining about a business trying to make as much money as possible out of it's customers - they aren't charities, they are capitalist businesses who's whole reason for being is to make as much money as possible. I find it baffling that people find that hard to understand - it's just the way our society has gone, and not many people have complained, otherwise it wouldn't have happened - how many people tut and moan but do the very things that have made this happen? Life isn't fair. Once you accept it, it becomes a lot easier to go through life a happier sole, we're here for a good time, not a long time, don't sweat the small stuff and try and enjoy every drop, not focus on the bad and you will make yourself and more importantly imho, those around you that you care for, a lot happier.

Its up to us to check the price per 100g and if you check the price per 100g then whats the problem, its teh supermarkets fault in pricing bigger pack items more expensive than single items

Good to hear that there are many people who don't work long hours, or have kids etc and have time to be checking in detail every single item they buy.
In a shop this would entail checking every single shelf a certain type of food is displayed (for example pizza: frozen, fresh, offers, end of isle etc etc).

Let's not forget it's not just the price, we also need to check ingredients in detail as the packaging is designed to trick you (according to a recent TV programme about cereals, Horizons).

Unfortunately some people just don't have time, you can imagine if you have a big family the amount of shopping you have to do, and probably with demanding children with you as well....

I totally believe in people taking responsibility for their actions, including purchases, but when this is made impossible to achieve by the average family, then there is something wrong!
