central manchester parking

Where would you recommend for parking in Manchester on a Sunday not too far from the main shopping area? I decided to park in Rusholme (an area I know) and take the bus in but ended up paying £9.20 for the round-trip (2 adults and 2 teens).

  • I would just go to the Arndale Car Park NCP. They have special rate on a Sunday but prob get there early or there would be no spaces.

Anywhere on street in a pay-and-display bay is free on a Sunday in Manchester, but as I've always recommended on this forum, CHECK ON THE METER!

This is my favourite parking spot when I want to collect someone from Picadilly Station: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=53.479491,-2.231233&spn=0,359.98071&z=16&layer=c&cbll=53.479423,-2.231447&panoid=20maCXjLrr0NzzcVYlvJDQ&cbp=12,197.65,,0,9.1

It's not too bad for the city centre if you don't mind a bit of a walk.

I usually park on the roads off Oxford Road - around the BBC and/or behind Oxford Road Station - Cambridge Street, Chester Street, Hulme Street Whitworth Street etc.
Free on Sundays but gets busy from lunchtime onwards - if there are no spaces there's a university multi storey on Charles Street that is £2 at weekends (at the Sackville Street ennd)

Park on Bloom Street M3 6ES, near Salford Central Station. It's free Saturday 12.30pm until Monday 8am.

Then walk up Bridge Street and you'll end up on Deansgate.

Only thing about Bloom street is its a haven for car criminals . make sure everything is removed from your car:eek:

    Thanks for your help guys.

Now could you help me out on this one. I'll be going to the MEN in November and coming in from the M56 direction. I do not know Manchester well, and certainly don't know it for driving, and know nothing about any one way or bus-only routes. I had planned to use Deansgate but see that there are roadworks and closures there. If I were to come in on Oxford Road or Princess Parkway how would you suggest I get to the MEN?

From the M56, follow Princess Parkway until you enter the city and see the blue motorway signs for the Mancunian Way (A57(M)). Turn right onto the Mancunian Way and follow it for as far as you can. If you leave this motorway early, you could take the shortest route to the MEN, but you'll get caught in the tight city centre streets and one-way crap etc. To avoid that, keep going (following the clear road markings marked RING ROAD) When you follow it straight on as far as you can, the dual carriageway bears left onto Great Ancoats Street which is mostly dual carriageway. Keep going straight on until you pass the massive CIS building. At that point, you'll see Victoria station ahead and the MEN arena. Get into the right hand lane and prepare to bear right onto Cheetham Hill Road (A665) just past the arena. As you head up this road going slightly away from the arena, look for the third side road on the left (or any side road after that) and you can park on street for free providing you check the signs and road markings.

I would suggest Carnarvon Street near Topps Tiles:

If you arrive after 4.01pm, you can leave your car there all night, although I can't guarantee the safety or security of the location. Beware the plethora of dark skinned, fluorescent jacketed loonies waving their arms at you at the roadside directing you to their private car parks that they will charge for. Those !!!!!!s are all over the city on MEN event nights. Whatever you do, DON'T park on private property (like shop car parks - even when closed), unless you wish to incur the wrath of the PPCs.
