Dell Inspiron 15- Is this deal worth it?

Hey everyone I recently saw on the dell site that they have a deal on the dell inspiron 15.

The Specifications of the dell inspirion 15 are:
- Intel Celeron processor T30000
- Genuine windows 7 home premium with 64bit
- 3GB Memory + 250GB Hard drive
- 15.6" Widescreen WXGA with Truelife
- Dell wireless card 1397.

The total price for this including VAT and delivery is £349. Do you think this is a good deal and that I should go for it because this deal ends on the 28th of this month so I only haven't got much time to decide.

I don't think its a good deal at all, I have just bought one from dell and has got far better specs for just £399, here is what my dell inspiron 15 includes,
    Processor
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T6600 (2.2GHz, 800MHz, 2MB)
    Memory
    4GB
    Graphics
    Intel Integrated GMA 4500M
    Hard Drive
    320GB
    Operating System
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium SP1 (64 BIT) + Free Windows 7 upgrade
    Dell Wireless card
    Bluetooth
    Card reader
    LCD
    15.6" Widescreen WXGA WLED (1366 x 768) TFT Display with TrueLife™

So I would pay £50 extra and get this system,

    Saj

The thing is I only want a basic laptop and I haven't got much money so I can only afford that. So would you now say its a gd deal. Also where did you get your dell.

no not really, the celeron processors are not getting the best of reviews at present. so although it may seem a good system it may be limited by this. £50 more is definately a more worthwhile investment

The spec is fine except for the processor. Celerons are slow and outdated now, even for basic tasks you want to go for a Dual Core or Core Duo processor.
Spending another £50 now will get you a much more futureproof Dell, as smokey123 demonstrates.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I disagree with all this being said about Celeron processors. They are fine for everyday use. In theory they may not stack up against their more expensive brothers, but in practice you won't notice unless you're a gamer or doing some heavy multi-tasking.

Not every needs a hi-spec PC. In fact when I think about it, most of my machines had Celeron processors. If anything was lacking I would have upgraded, but there has been no reason to do so.

If you are on a tight budget, consider a return from Argos. They arrive as in 'as new' condition and have a full twelve month guarantee.

Here is a good starter model for £275.
Better still is this one at £295.

Take a look at their website to see what they have to offer in your price range.

If you feel the need to compare CPUs, you can look here.

Don't stress out over it. All will handle watching DVDs and your everyday tasks. CPUs are getting better all the time. Celeron processors of today are better than Core2Duos of yesterday, so don't take all this futureproofing talk seriously.

Don't feel forced to spend more than you can afford. As long as you aren't a gamer, any from the recommended and above will handle your everyday tasks.

Donnie no one is forcing anyone all we are saying is if you are spending £350 then why not spend £50 extra and get a better spec laptop which is gonna last for sometime.
what you are suggesting might be good for now but i don't think they are gonna last very long, at the end of the day its up to the one who is spending money and they know exactly what they want and what they need.

if the man wants to spend £350 on a laptop, give him £350 options, not start whinging at him for not spending £400. Pathetic.

The processor is fine. The latest Celerons in the 3000 series use the same basic design as the Core2Duo processors, albeit cut down slightly. Celerons to avoid are those numbered like E1400 (an older design) and M 440 (even older and only single core).
  • Thanks for all your help everyone, Im sure I won't have any problems getting a laptop when I eventually get one. The majority of them are going down in price and when it comes closer to christmas when Ill be getting mine im sure I will get a good deal on it.
