It's a decent spec, but I would prefer a plasma with a higher resolution (1366x768). It's good that it has HDMI with HDCP as this is likely to be a requirement when HD-DVD/Blu-ray takes off.

There doesn't seem to be a SCART socket so unless your DVD player/Sky box/cable box/freeview box has an HDMI socket then you will have to use the composite video which is basically a very low-quality signal.

I would prefer a higher resolution than 1024x768. Checking out the German website, for this product it states 2 scarts that are RGB compaible etc. Not a bad price for Plasma. If anybody is thinking of buying one, make sure that you read what it states on the website:

    1024 x 768 ? That's the resolution I use on my PC monitor, and that's 4:3.

Is this a commonly used resolution on widescreen panels ?

Once again, the duh brigade jump in thinking they know it all...

You wont get a higher res than 1024x768 on a 42" plasma. 1366x768 start on 50" when you're paying at least £2000. Don't compare this to LCDs as they're completely different technology (a plasma at 1024x768 looks superior to an LCD at 1366x768)

Of course it has scarts, two of them, both RGB input which is pretty good (most cheaper plasmas only have one RGB scart). The detachable speakers are a bonus also, as something like this would be crying out for output through a 5.1 system. 3 Year warranty is another decent bonus.

All in all, its a pretty good offer. Although I am chuckling at their claim that it is made by the worlds leading manufacturer...

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a samsung panel - samsung panels are more often than not rebadged under different brand names (cough, TIME Plasmas, cough)...

"Thanked 3 Times in 3 Posts as of November 2005."

ehosin....I think you need to update your thanks signature as it says thanked 3 times in 3 posts, but you've been thanked a lot more since then. What do you think? Thanks.

I bow to my learned friend's superior knowledge. :)

The spec sheet on the Aldi site doesn't mention SCARTs so it's not exactly "obvious" - granted that information is available with a bit of research...

it will not have 1080i as that is impossible to have on a 1024x768 screen :) but it will cope with 720i/p :)

I am not sure but I think that you are mistaken here. It won't cope with 1080p and not (i) as (p) is the real HD and (i) uses some digital trickery or something like this. I know this as my monitor copes with 1080i but not 1080p. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
