Education Funding

Hi. I would like to take a course in Teaching English as a foreign Language. The courses average around the £1000 area. Does anyone know if I can get funding for this or some sort of education loan? I have looked around but not found much. Student Loan company seems to be the answer but they only appear to loan to student actually going to university.

Any help would be great

thanks

Paul.

    basically no
SLC will not fund non Uni courses.

£1000 doesn't seem a great deal of money, could you save up or borrow from parents, or OD or bank loan or use CC etc.

Or possibly is selling his/her services by PM and trying to keep a low(ish) profile on the main message boards while trying to appear helpful.

The choice of username for a newby certainly raises suspcions.

  • What you would be looking for is a Career Development Loan. I got mine from the Co-op Bank, but Barclays and possibly others do them as well.

I got mine when doing a master's, as student loans aren't available for postgraduate study. You don't start repayments until you've finished studying, which helps a lot. Max loan when I got mine was 8k but I think this has now gone up to 10k.

I suspect this ''course'' is not eligible for career development loans.
  • HI thanks for help. I dont understand some posts. seem to think I am fake, sorry if i have mis understood them.

This course is fully legit. There are many TEFL companies in the UK and around the world. It is for gaining CELTA or TESOL qualifications. Allowing you to teach English as a foreign Language in other countries. In my case, Russia. The course is usually intensive over 4 weeks. It is very much career development, as with the qualification it can lead to very rewarding jobs teaching English Language around the world. I will look at the Career Development Loan. Thanks for advice. The compan

I did not think you were a fake but the course could be.
You have confirmed my thoughts though that if it is just a 4 week (however intensive) course career development loans won't look at you.
I will admit that I do not know what CELTA or TESOL qualifications are but have a look at any high street bank website and look for their loans - and see what is covered. If you were becoming a doctor, solicitor accountant etc you may well be eligible but IMO a foreign language English teacher will not be covered.

I wish you luck and if you do get funding keep us informed of how its going.
  • I did my CELTA with a CDL through Clydesdale bank in 96. So they did give them for this then. There are cheaper option available for courses too - maybe it is worthwhile looking into them.
