Direct debit charge help !!!

I have a direct debit set up for my car insurance, which is £101 a month - I'm 19 - Anyhoo, In my normal cash card halifax account, i had £82, the money is meant to come out on the 1st of every month, so i dodn't have enough in the account, and because the banks were shut monday & tuesday, i couldnt put money in. I went down to the bank today, and put the money in, and was told that the (halifax) insurance had been requested for on the tuesday, and that I now had to pay a charge, prob about £30. And that I have to pay the insurance 7 days from now.
Anyway, this happened before, and it was ma fault, so I couldnt get an overdraft, or anything until the end of feburary because of having a bank charge. So now i'm gonna have to wait another 6 months to get an overdraft. An overdraft i need for situations like this.
What can I do to maybe get them to lift the charge, allowing me to get an overdraft. Or should I tell them to shove their bank, and go to another ?
Any help appreciated.

You could explain the situation.
The banks were open on Tuesday 4th so you could have paid in that day.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Is this a Bank charge for a failed standing order, or being charged by the insurance? If it is the insurance co (presumably Halifax again), I agree, you can probably try and explain the situation to them. Any waiver however, will have to be more out of courtesy, than binding upon them.
I have always maintained that payments towards Direct Debits should be funded one working day before it is due. Maybe you could make that a practice going forward. It's always the grass that suffers, irrespective of whether the elephants are fighting or making love !!!0 -
Its a charge from the bank for not being able to pay the DD, I tried to get the money in, but the banks were shut, gonna give them a phone 2 moro, explain, and ask if they would kindly lift the charge, and give me a small overdraft incase something like this happens again. If not, then I'll just tell them I'm off...Feb 06 *****Highest Debt*****

If it was the first time they 'MIGHT' have let you off.
I doubt they will this time, at least next time you'l know to have cash on account well before payment is due, preferably 2 or 3 days in advance.
Personally I keep a small amount in the websaver which I can transfer any time to meet the needs of due payments, so that I don't have to worry about the banks being open, cheques clearing etc... As you an do it all online instantly0 -
The Halifax Current Account and Websaver work well for me................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0

Unless you live in Scotland, which is a bit crap as the rest of UK was open I believe which is how Halifax would have claimed the DD I guess, I'd see if they would waive it this time as goodwill given the circumstances(unless you've missed lots before)0 -
All I can say is why didn't you have the money in by the 1st?? You need to have the money in the working day before any DD's are due. Banks were open Wed, Thu & Fri last week.....
When do you get paid? If it is monthly, perhaps see if your insurance company can change the pymt date to pay day or soon after.
I agree with what the others say - other banks are hardly going to be fighting over themselves for your custom - you have missed pymts, which will likely show on your credit file that other banks will search when you apply for an account.
Unfortunately overdrafts are not rights, but privileges that you need to earn/convince then bank you can be trusted with!0
