Airline tickets - posted or can be picked up at airport?

^^Thanks Alt. No, I don't plan to drive at all. I am traveling alone and just plan on seeing the sights, such as The Golden Gate Bridge (up close and personal hopefully!). Looks like I better pre-book a hotel then. Thanks for the link too; will have a good read.
.. you are lucky as SF is perhaps one of only a handful of US large cities where you could rely on public transport to get you about. Don't count on walking as believe me it is even worse than the pictures you see. Driving a car sometimes I felt I was on a rollercoaster! Look into buying the local equivalent of a daily/weekly travelcard. Also check http://www.tripadvisor.com/ for hotel reviews and things to do and see.
Above all enjoy the trip. SF is beautiful.
