Considering an intensive driving course in Manchester

Hi,

I wondered if anyone had any advice or experience of intensive driving courses?

I have failed my test twice (in my late teens), and have not had any lessons for around 7 years. My instructor said she was confident I was up to test standard but on the day of my test I was really nervous and made stupid mistakes and so I failed : ( The problem was that I started university soon after that and I just haven't been able to afford to take lessons since then.

I'm now in a slightly better financial position, am a much more confident person generally, and have decided to bite the bullet and learn to drive.

However, as I've applied for a job where a driving license is essential I've been considering booking an intensive course with a company called North West Crash Courses who look quite good. There's no shared tuition and the cost works out pretty similar to BSM (who I did my previous test with) hour for hour.

My theory test (which I re-did last year) runs out in February so I need to pass before then.

I've got a lot of hours driving under my belt (about 40), and although I haven't driven for quite a while I'm hoping it will come back to me and I can get up to test standard reasonably quickly as I won't be having a week break between each lesson and won't spend time picking up from where I left off.

Does anyone have experience of this company or any others (bad or good!) in Manchester?

Thanks for your help

Vida

Are you in North or South Manchester?

If North, I can PM you with a couple of companies / instructors who may be worth the money.. and plenty to avoid!

I failed my test before I went to university and didn't drive for about a year - then after the first year I took the test after a few lessons and passed.

I never got a car though - but now a few years later have been practising a bit and it has come back quickly - will be getting a car soon (yay!)

Most of it will come back to you - do you have a friend/relative who you can go out for some practise with? This should mean you can jump straight in when you start the course (or might make some older bad habits worse...)

No - that's the problem, my mum doesn't drive and none of my friends have cars so no one to ask. I was thinking of going for a 2 hour lesson with BSM or someone prior to the course (if I do it) so that I can get to grips with the basics again.

Maybe you should try and do it with the same instructor as the course - so it will be the same car and s/he will get some more idea of how you are in the car

That would be the ideal - i'm not sure whether the company I found do single lessons, but i'll call tomorrow and ask. Thanks for the tip!
