Cavendish application & Short Term cover

Has anyone applied for Life & Critical Illness cover with Aviva via Cavendish - do you know how long roughly will it take once I send in my application?
I need to have a cover to start as soon as possible as our new house purchase completes next week. From Aviva website, it seems like Life Cover (without Critical Illness) application process can start immediately, can I apply for that first, and cancel that once my application via Cavendish is successful? For temporary protection can I just reduce the term to say 10 yr (even though the mortgage is 25 yr) just to reduce the premium since I'm planning to cancel this anyway.
Can anyone see anything wrong with this and would I have problem cancelling the policy?
Ultimately I would want a critical illness cover but for the time being, I would still want some life protection for the large mortgage amount.
Thanks.

If submitted electronically and application accepted on standard terms then it can be immediate. If its paper then it can take a week. If an underwriting decision is required then that can take a few days to months. From Aviva website, it seems like Life Cover (without Critical Illness) application process can start immediately, can I apply for that first, and cancel that once my application via Cavendish is successful?
You can but may need to declare the first application on the second application.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Would declaring it affects the premium amount?
Also is it easy to cancel a policy?
