Aachen Christmas Market

I am thinking about going to this next month or so as I'm due some time off work, and I'm ideally like to go during the week (as it's rather difficult to get time off work at the weekend for me *sidenote - I know I'm typing this at the weekend, but I am off to work later*.
I went when I was 12 years old or so with the school when I was young, but I can't remember very much about it, only that I liked it (and nearly passed out on Eurotunnel, but that's not the point). Anyway, although I've been before, it was organised by the school and I didn't have to do any organising at the time and it was a long time ago. Now, what is the best way about getting there now? Do you think an organised coach trip is a good idea? Or do you think taking the train would be a good idea? I will not have car access. I am going to do my own research off course and find about what I can for myself, but I just wanted to pick your brains.

Depending on whereabouts you are setting off from, I would recommend taking the Eurostar to Brussels then either a Thalys or German ICE train straight to Aachen. Eurostar starts at £59 return and if you look at either https://www.bahn.co.uk or https://www.tgv-europe.com (I think that's the correct address!) you should be able to sort yourself a reasonable ticket price - about £35 return.
It takes about 2 hours to Brussels then about 1 hour 40 to Aachen.

Have you thought about the Cologne Christmas Markets? We are going in December flying with Ryanair to Weeze, and then a coach to Cologne.
If you are going mid-week you should be able to get a very cheap fare. We only paid 2p return each from Stansted.
If you book a hotel in Cologne through www.koelntourismus.de/en/welcome-to-cologne. you will get a free Welcome Card which allows you free travel on public transport and various discounts.0 -
Well, I'm a big fan of the Berlin market, lol!
All of the cities and towns have their own Christmas market -
http://www.germany-christmas-market.org.uk/ Maybe one of the others is easier for you to get to?
The advantage for me with Berlin - Easyjet & Ryanair both fly there, a five minute walk from the airport to the S-Bahn, and you can travel directly into the heart of the city.0 -
It is actually possible to book a through ticket from London St Pancras to Aachen on www.bahn.co.uk. Eurostar to Brussels and then change to a Deutsche Bahn ICE to Aachen. I checked for a journey departing Friday 20 November, returning Tuesday 24 November and the cost was 131,50 Euro inc the postage charge. This space has been intentionally left blank0

Maybe obvious - but make sure the one you choose to visit has started. At one time they were just in advent, but the date has slowly been creeping forward with many of them. Aachen is starting on 20 November for example.
Eurostar from St Pancras or Ebbsfleet is your best bet0 -
Thank you dzung1, I'd start looking up pricesThe Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0
