Help With Confusing Buy Out And PPI Claim

Sorry for the title, its hard to sum it up!

Back in 1999-2000 time i took out 2 maybe 3 loans with "The Associates"
and it has now come to light i have been mis-sold PPI insurance.

Firstly i was told i would not get the loan if i were not to take out the PPI insurance and it was never fully explained what it was for and about.

Secondly i am 100% sure i was sold PPI insurance on the 2nd loan and maybe the 3rd, even though it was through the same lender "The Associates". I feel i was pressured and never fully explained the details of the PPI i was sold. I was a spotty 19 year old and feel they took advantage of my lack of knowledge in the financial lending world.

NOW.....

As mentioned above the loan WAS taken out via "The Associates" who were in a little shop unit down the road, the shop no longer exists and neither does the name "The Associates".

It has become clear that "The Associates" were bought out by
"Citi-Financial" a few years after i took the original loan out.

As Things Stand!

During the first few years of the loan i made payments to
"The Associates" at the start of the loan and payments got more sparadic as the months went by due to increasing debts. Eventually it was passed over to a debt collections company called "Connaught Collections" who i have been paying for the last year or longer........

On the 8th of october 2009 my mum (yes i know) had a letter come through from "1st credit" with a "annual statement" of payments i had made since 1/10/2008-30/9/2009..... Who the heck are they???
And going to my mums!

What To Do?

The predicement i am in is who do i goto to claim mis-selling PPI?
Associates (original lender, even though they no longer exist)
Citi-financial ( though the loan came via associates)
1st credit (not sure who they are)

This most recent letter i got from "1st credit" states:

1st credit ref no 355*****
re, your agreement with CITIFIANANCIAL EUROPE PLC
Relating to account number 8859****************
Balance outstanding £1900.36

Should i take it that CITIFIANACLE are admiting the debt being owed to them and the "account number" is relating to original account!
This would be good as i have nothing at all relating to the original loan agreement and is very hard to trace the orignal loan without it.

I have downloaded the letter template for stage 1 "Askng for details" and i do not have a clue where to send it! All the comp[anies above are passing the buck and i need a BIG POINTER on who i need to send this
DATA PROTECTION letter to so i can get the ball rolling!

Also have citi-financial beed fined already as companies that are linked to them have!

Thanks in advance for any replies!

    Hello there.;)

A suggestion here, give the Financial ombudsman service (FOS) a ring, and ask if they can help on your behalf, they can do this with your request, and it may be better this way, so you get no messing about.

Just as long as the FOS have all your details/info, they will write to the business on your behalf, I have just send one of mine to them and am, hoping they will be able to deal with this for me, as the business/loan company were not governed when we taken out the loan with them, but the FOS are going to be looking into other ways of dealing with this for us.

Give them a call, you should find them helpful.;)

Good luck and please keep us posted, cheers.

    Your very welcome.;)
The FOS have in the past wrote to the businesses on my behalf, it takes a little pressure from you as well.
Fingers crossed for you and look forward to hearing from you again soon, good luck.

Please do as I have sent in 5 claims to Citifinance, and 3 of them were through assosiates ( Think they just changed names from what i recall)
We have a letter from first credit too which i assume is the debt collector they have sent it to. As for finding address yes i know it was difficult and still dont know if it was the right one, if you need it i will post it up.;)
