  • Thanks Tina (for the good luck) I guess we're strangers in this together!

Re above - it seems from research that it depends on the company. Some are worse than others. Things seem to be a lot better nowadays then they were - that's for sure. I rang up Sky (took it out in May when paying for it was not a problem) and as soon as I said I was wondering if I could cancel my sky sub and the guy was so nice about it - explained that I was nowhere near the end of the 12 month contract, however, Sky didn't want to make my financial situation worse for the sake of some TV channels, so if I wrote them a letter, they would be happy to cancel it for me, or put it on hold til things got better. I wasn't expecting that at all!

we do seem to be

i guess the worst thing is the not knowing what is going to happen, how companies will react and the fact that it will take forever to pay off

and for me the fact that i may well be going through this on my own and i do hate being on my own, i didnt realise how much until the last 2 weeks

You will get through it and come out the other side, Tina, believe me. It may be a rough ride getting there, but at least your OH knows the score, and whether he stays around or not, you at least will know you are on the right road to getting things sorted out. Assume your creditors will not be happy, then you will be pleasantly surprised if some are reasonable about things. What will be will be, and you can only pay what you have - remember that, and remember the wealth of support there is out there and on here for you and others like you.

    Hi Tina
Glad you had a positive meeting with the CAB.
Good luck with your creditors letters.

I don't know if this has been suggested before, but could you possibly get a second job to up your income?

It would get you out of the house and may even take your mind off your financial and personal problems.

I had wondered about this in the past but to be honest i am so tired all the time just doing my current job i dont think its an option at the moment.

I will be sorting out all the letters this weekend and am also in the process of getting the new bank account sorted.

i want to do this before i send my letters to existing bank in case they turn nasty and take all my money before i can transfer it

that's understandable at this point, probably the fact you're so tired has something to do with what's going on for you too.

Maybe an idea to put on the back burner until you're more sorted out.

    Take care.
  • thanks pollycat

i have a feeling this weekend is going to be very trying

Whenever my old boss gave me a job that seemed daunting, he used to remind of this:

Q: How do you eat an elephant?
A: One bite at a time.

Don't knock yourself out this weekend, do a little bit, take a break.
  • thank, i will do.

this weekend is going to writing letters to creditors telling them why i cant pay them what they want and then i am going to relax with a good book and a glass of wine
(i already have the wine so that is free (present from my dad) and the book is from the library, i think i am getting into this frugal thing)
  • Is OH accepting any liability towards the debts?

Do you have aldi/lidl nearby that you could start using to cutback on your food shopping costs?
