RBS Will Not Pay my PPI on Credit Card by cheque!!

Hi could I have some advice please. I have been offered a "Goodwill" payment by RBS on the PPI on my credit card which was mis-sold. I am in financial hardship and have an agreement in place to pay back the amount owing on my card. I have a letter stating that my account is TERMINATED and not active. I have paid my agreed sum promptly each month. RBS are refusing to pay my PPI back by cheque even though I have spoken to them twice and they confirmed they cannot pay back a sum to a TERMINATED account! I feel this is my money and although I know that I am in arrears, over the years I have paid my card off completely a number of times so in my view Its My Money! Do you think it is worthwhile going to the FSO or should I just let them credit it. If my card was active and they paid it back to it and then I used my card again, I would be paying them back the amount of money they refunded to me! It just does not make sense. I am working very hard at controlling my finanacial situation and need the money for other things. Any advice please?

Hello there.;)
Of course if your not happy you can take it to the FOS, like any other complaint.
It is annoying I know, but if you get the chance to browse the threads, you will find this is well known in how they do this, if there is still arrears outstanding, they will tend to pay towards the arrears.
I can understand how frustrating this must be for you, because due to this, it probably did not help in the first place, which put an impact to the debt, so yes you have a good point and its your money.
You could write back and argue on this and tell them maybe the debt would not have been so bad if you were not sold PPI in the first place, which you believe have played a part of putting you in an inconvenient position now.
Ask them to consider they refund direct to you, then if they refuse, you can complain to the FOS.
Like anything though, there is no guarantee they will do this, but maybe the FOS will see this in your favour if you complain to them.
Good luck and hope this goes your way, fingers crossed, please keep us posted.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Thanks very much but I have spoken to them and they are adamant that they will not pay by cheque. They keep saying my account is not terminated but I have a letter from them which clearly states the word TERMINATED! So frustrating. Anyone would think it was their money! I have a car which is essential for my work which needs alot of money spending on it so I really need this money. Thanks for your advice. I will try them again tomorrow and then the ombudsman.

Wishing you luck hun, and if you can send them a photocopy of the paperwork that you have which shows the account is terminated, also to the FOS as well if it does not end up going in your favour by being paid directly to you.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"
