I've been scouring the boards looking for advice, as I'm after buying a superking-size divan & mattress (memory foam).
Lots of great tips on here... I've read a couple of times that bartering in a 'showroom' is a must, especially if you're a cash buyer (which I will be).
So I was just wondering if anyeone had any experience of bartering, and what you managed to get for your money? i'm generally a bit shy about bartering (!) but happy to give it a go!
So for example, did you haggle down the price, or go for extras to be thrown in (linen, pillows. etc?)
thank you!
Bartering in big stores will rarely work. If it does work, then you would be unlikely to to get anywhere near as good a saving as you would on line.0 -

First of all the spring count. More than 800 pocket springs in a king size mattress is enough to do what pocket springs are designed to do. If there are too many springs then each individual spring has to be so small and weak, that the get damaged easily. So I usually recommend between 1000 and 1800 in a king size mattress (the industry standard is for the spring count to be for a king size mattress. So a 1000 pocket sprung superking size mattress would actually contain 1200 springs).
All good quality pocket sprung mattresses will have side stitching. Don't be fooled when you can see the rows of side stitching on the side of the mattress. This is just for cosmetic reasons, and it is actually hidden on most mattresses.
A two sided turnable mattress is a must, otherwise it won't last anywhere near as long.
Most pocket sprung beds don't come much firmer than medium to firm. This is because pocket springs that were too firm wouldn't contour to your body, you would just be perched on top.
Whatever you do, don't go for the gimmicks where one side is firmer than the other. This would have the same effect as making the mattress non turn.
It would be a good idea to stay away from any of the big brands.
You should have no problem getting the whole lot for under £1000
The one in the link is way over priced, even if you take into account 20% cash back from Quidco.
As you know, I'm not allowed to actually recommend anything.
January is the time to get a good bed for a cheap price in the sales. I have just been on the Sleepmasters website and noticed they have a half price sale on at the moment.0 -

It is very rare to get loads of money off beds and mattresses in the high street stores in the sales. They just inflate the RRP, then tell you that you are getting it cheap in the sale, when it is just usually closer to the real value.
If you want to get a good mattress at a low price then stay away from the big brands and the big stores, and buy on line.0
