Gas & Electricity how often do uswitch???

Options
I was just looking at switching and can save about £100 annually - plus get £40 cashback. I reckon I switched about 18 months ago - during which time my DD has crept up from £65 to £103 a month.

I was just wondering how often other people switch. Is annually too often? Also should I get a plan fixed until Dec 2010?:confused::confused:

Switch as often as you like if the saving is worthwhile. Some people on here just switch, wait for the cashback to pay out and switch again.
Fixing to Dec 2010 gives you security against future increases, but you'll lose out if prices fall, as they have done recently. Only you will know what your priorities are.

The commission /cashback paid to you, Chicken, is already factored into the price, so might as well have it, as long as you don't have penalties for leaving.
Combined with reducing consumption by life changes, you canna go wrong.
  • Thanks:beer: I didn't realise people switched so often...guess it really does pay! Will put a note in my diary to do it at least once a year from now on.:D:D:D

But bear in mind that sometimes the best tariffs will lock you in for at least 12 months.

Yes - I think I'm going to get a 12-month fixed tariff this time round.

You can do it with banks as well, Chicken....
  • I wonder how many people realise that you only get cashback once from each comparison site. I've switched many times over the years and I'm running out of places to get any cashback at all. I have to say that it's still worth switching every year or so as indicated on this site. I think Martin should make this much clearer on his main switching page though. Any comments Martin?

Only with some comparison sites (and suppliers). There are sites (such as topcashback or quidco) that pay you as many times as you like. Those who don't (such as moneysupermarket or energyhelpline) shouldn't be used (for cashback) anyway as they only pay a fraction of what you can receive from others.

I thought it was only Moneysupermarket that only pays cashback once? Energyhelpline pay it everytime you switch as far as I'm aware. You will get the bigger cashback amounts from sites like quidco etc. and you will get the quidco cashback everytime you switch too.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

I didn't realise that with some you could only get cashback once. Must keep my eyes peeled for the small print.
