Shame about the tea making problem, I guess you cant have everything. It may be she has more aptitude for cocktail making?

My 6 y/o niece loves 'training' my dog - obviously, I closely supervise, but let her use a dog biscuit and ask the dog to 'sit' then she rewards her - she loves it, she thinks she has taught the dog something new every time, and Badger loves anything that involves biscuits!

Do be watchful about how the little one offers the treat though and how Lady takes it - if you have any concerns that Lady could accidentaly nip the little ones fingers it may be better for your son to drop the treat to the floor for her to pick up!

Thanks for the concern but there is a very careful drop between the snack being offered and taken. Lady doesn't get close to the Generalissimo's hand and Generalissimo's hand doesn't get close to Lady's teeth.

    Good point.

B-i-L is a part time cocktail barman so might be able to point her in the right direction.
  • Hi Generali, I've just come across this thread. Your inherited dog is lovely! Do you feel like you are turning into more of a 'dog' person now that you've had her a little while? Glad the training is going well :j

Hard to say if I'm more of a general 'dog person' really. I like Lady and wouldn't want to see any harm befall her. Whether that would extend to getting her a pal or replacing her when she dies I don't know.

TBH I could see us getting a puppy one day. Maybe a kelpie. The trouble is if I get a kelpie then I need to get a ute too.

I bought Lady a Christmas present.

ha ha ha - you have finally cracked!! (or become cracked!) welcome to the club! :D

Though we always had dogs when I was growing up, I had not planned to have one of my own, till a friends neighbours moved out, and left a little terrier mix in a cage in the garden.. after a week of us feeding her and ringing the RSPCA, I decided to 'liberate' her and take her to a rescue (I half expected her to be nasty, she had been worked, and did nothing but bark and snarl all day, so I went armed with leather gloves to handle the dog, as well as bolt cutters to get her out!) - but, I got my timing all wrong, and had to leave her in the house whilst I went to work for the evening - I planned to take her in the next morning.

When I came back from work, she was so happy to see me again, rolling on her back and wagging, and then she continuously followed me round the house with her nose actually touching the back of my leg... and I just couldn't do it. She stayed with me for ten years, till she died, peacefully, in her sleep, and she was the best dog anyone could have.

Sometimes life chucks things at us that we wouldt have planned, but which turn out to be good for all involved. Give Lady a nice scratch behind the ears from me please!
