The type of buyer is the same whether you sell by auction, BIN or classifieds. No method of selling cars via eBay beats Autotrader or comes close in my opinion.

    Many dealers use Autotrader too...

Many dealers use both, eBay is a lot cheaper for classified ad's than AutoTrader.

It certainly isn't " rubbish " otherwise dealers would not use it.

    Strange, no mention yet of
    https://www.pistonheads.com

Haven't sold a car privately for years until a few months ago when I used the above site to sell my wife's 5 yr old KA following recommendations from forum users.

It sold within 2 days on a free listing with 3 photos allowed.

Autotrader is just £9.99 for 10 days on the website* which in my experience is more than enough, you get loads of calls from Autotrader in the first 2-3 days.

eBay is £12.99 for a classified ad listing so it isn't cheaper actually. You do get a longer listing period but that just means more tightwads who want the car for free get to see it. And for just 2 pounds more than eBay, if you go to Autotrader you can extend the website coverage to 2 weeks and get a week in the magazine free, absolutely no contest, Autotrader every time.

    * For cars under £1000 which I assume this one is as it is 11 years old.

If you choose to sell on ebay, make sure you put in large letters: UK bidders only. And ask for paypal deposit 24 hours within auction ending. Delete bids without good feedback. I sold a car at christmas time on ebay. Plenty of genuine bids that would have resulted in a quick sale. But some chap in europe won, with negative feedback saying he'd collect within 2 weeks. He could not pay a deposit so I sold it to someone who had cash waiting and had emailed me. Ebay doesn't give much protection to sellers IMO.

Different rules apply to eBay " classified " listings, they are just for sale ad's.

That should really read as - Ebay doesn't give any protection to sellers and likes to shaft them as hard and as often as they can

Set up an advert on AutoTrader but my card provider A & L would not authorise the payment due to fraudelent activity on Autotrader. Any one else come across this?
