Beware of the Barclaycard Survey!!!

Options
I quite recently received a request online in the form of an email to join the Barclaycard Survey. Quite innocently I completed same and a couple of days received a further email with a link asking more questions.

The next thing I knew was they reduced my Credit Limit on my Credit Card from £4800 to £2000.

The type of questions they asked were "Which Credit Cards you held and who made the decisions in your houselhold regarding financial matters". It seems if you diclose certain information they then write to you indicating that "because of information about your credit history supplied by Credit Reference Agencies" they have come to that decision.

I think it is bacause you have truthfully answered questions with answers not to their liking??

My advice to you all, is steer clear of any Surveys conducted by the Financial Instutions or Third Parties otherwise you may regret it.

Furthemore, I have not "missed payments" or caused problems to any of the Lenders or Credit Card Companies I use.

It might be a coincidence. Most companies make surveys anonymous.

You could SAR them anyway and see if they have kept the survey answers in your records with them.

I agree. This may be pure coincidence, so I'd keep an open mind.

The chances that the results of the Barclaycard survey were collected, analysed and acted upon that quickly, seems rather unlikely.

Lots of forum users have suffered credit limit cuts over the last 12 months.

I'm not really worried anyway - as I had only ever used them on a Balance Transfer some two years ago at competitive rate for Life of the Balance.

But believe me it was more than a coincidence with their decision following the survey - this happened in the space of 7 days of the two part survey they performed.

Threre may be others out their who may have found this a problem, so that is why I am bringing it to their attention - it was a voluntary survey not compulsary!!

Rest assured, the types of question you've cited are typical of marketing surveys. These are usually conducted by market researchers unconnected with the client (in this case a credit card company), and the identity of respondents is not disclosed. These surveys are more concerned with sampling the client's customers and identifying trends in behaviour, than individual case histories.

    Welcome to MSE!, btw.

Why would anyone want to fill in surveys of any kind in the UK. There is a vast amout of information already held by everyone about everything! Giving more nobody's even more info on your life only gves them more control over how you live your life.

I've often asked myself the same question. There are so many of these darned surveys on the web and over the phone.

Then again, what do the companies commissioning these surveys expect to gain, I wonder?

Presumably, they must glean something of value or they wouldn't keep forking out for them. I guess it keeps somebody somewhere in work.

Most surveys like this are anonymous.

Companies want a better understanding of their customer base in order to deliver better service.
