I have bought a gprs card for my laptop off ebay and put an O2 PAYG sim in it. I can connect OK but only seem to be able to reach the O2.co.uk website.
Surely I'm not restricted to a walled garden? I'm using the free 5MB data you get on registration.
Any help much appreciated.

Googling for "o2 gprs internet" might help. E.g. http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:pZ3MaSGVI-UJ:www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html+o2+gprs+internet&hl=en&gl=uk&ct=clnk&cd=1 and http://www.esato.com/archive/t.php/t-55252 have settings, although the latter is 2 years old so might be out of date.0

Thanks Chippy. I have checked the settings which are the same as I was using but it seems that only contract customers have access to the full web. Can anyone confirm this please?

I though that 3 were the only operator with a walled garden! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Just been speaking to O2 customer service - apparently laptop internet access is disabled on PAYG although it is OK from a phone.
I wonder how they know what you're connecting with?

Probably check which browser you're using - tried with Firefox or Opera? (may be checking for 'not IE').0

I have just tried Opera but that made no difference unfortunately.
Does anyone know if Orange World Access on PAYG is the same (ie no laptop access)? Their £4 for 4MB bundle sounds reasonable.

I had similar experience. O2 doesnt allow Internet access on online PAYG (although I am told that some PAYG accounts DO work, tho never tried myself)
Orange is the best solution, you get yourself a PAYG SIM on orange and they have an option to "try" Orange World for £1 /day (unlimited access!) which is by far the best solution all round. You can simply buy a day's access as many times as you want, so its not just to "try" once.
BTW if you search ebay there are some people who sell the info I have just given you! (i.e. unilmited Internet access for £1/day)0 -
Have now got Orange PAYG and Onspeed working a treat. Haven't topped up the sim card yet - I assume I must have got some free access on registration.
