Couple of questions;-

a) Any suggested good buys ?
b) What is the benefit of it being DVD RAM capable does this mean it can record pretty much instantly if non DVD RAM do I assume there is a fairly serious time lag
c) Presumably they are not very good if not offering Video Plus

Many thanks

If your going to get one with a built in harddrive i would recommend getting one that has freeview built in as well, so its feature proof, then you wont need the video plus ;)

    Thanks Tom :-)

if it has a hard drive then RAM usage isn't really an issue. DVD-RAM is a pseudo hard disk so useful in machines without a hard disk. The time lag should be nil as you are recording to hard disk in most cases then archiving off to DVD+/-R after it's recorded.
  • I've been looking for a DVD/HD PVR with freeview but seen nothing for less than 400 quid (a fancy sony thing).. anyone know of a good cheap model?

I bought a Pioneer 433 with a 80gig hard drive a couple of months ago from Empire Direct. Its a fantastic machine. I archive recordings from sky+ overnight on to the hard drive and then edit out start/finish and adverts and achieve great results

Have a look at the Liteon LVW5025GH at Dixons and Currys for £149.99. I think this one has a 80gb hard drive but does not say on the website. They are also doing the Liteon LVW5045GD for £179.99. Think this one has a 160gb hard drive. Argos are selling the same models with the 80gb hdd at £199.99 and the 160gb hdd at £249.99. Only thing that appears different is that the Argos models have an extra letter after the model numbers. Dont know what these extra letters mean though. Both seem excellent value for the spec. No they dont have freeview, but at this price if you buy a separate freeview adapter your still getting good value. I think both models have Videoplus and DivX playback. Someone please correct me if I`m wrong.
