Do I have a "right to light"?

When I moved into my house some 15 years ago, there were some smallish trees about 5 metres from the house.
After much nagging by me and my neighbours, the trees were trimmed of overhanging branches. The park ranger who cut them back told me that I had no right to a view and that he didn't have time to do any more.
I was a little taken aback because I never really asked for a view, I just feel my house is made dark because of the trees (and so do my neighbours).
I wondered if anyone knew what my rights are?
