Not necessarily! If they're so late to conduct a test in the next time slot, they'll cancel your test and rebook it free of charge. If you're late, they just won't take you at all. Your test will be cancelled and you'll lose your fee. Examiners aren't stupid. In fact, it's been known for some people to "try it on" by deliberately showing up late / stalling for time in the hope they'll get a shorter or "easier" route. Now that's known, steps are put in place to counter that. Time is allowed for ALL routes even with a few minutes delay at the start, but if you try it on, expect to be disappointed.

Only crap instructors (who can't get a pass any other way) do that. I know one instructor who put so much time and effort into teaching his pupil a test route, she ended up predicting the turn before the examiner had even given the direction, so ended up steering into the bus lane long before it ended. Now if he had put as much time and effort into actually teaching her to respond to signs and markings rather than showing her routes, the result may have been different that day.
