  • Hiya, couldn't just read and run. Why don't you give your mobile phone companies a ring and say you'd like to switch to a cheaper tarriff. You don't need to be out of a contract to reduce your bills, even if you can reduce it by £20 a month that's a good start. (you could try saying times are hard financially, redundency looming etc and see what they say - worst case, they say no and you stay the same!)
    Good luck with the baby!

Yeah it's all in with Virgin - Tv and broadband. We both have contract phones which is why thats high. The Oh's contract is up for renewal soon so I will try and get her to go on a cheaper tarrif. Yet mines not up till late next year.

Contract phones don't cost £60 per month!!

Are you really only spending £60 a month on food? With a pregnant partner?

Where does the other £1k per month go?

    DOH!!!!!:o

That should be £60 a week on food. I'm so used to doing a weekly breakdown.

And clothes are really only brought when we have spare money.

I've not been any good with budgeting but this time there is something VERY VERY VERY important to budget for so I MUST DO IT!!!

    I'm prob missing something there.

I think I need to sit down one day and think of everything that comes in and goes out. I know we currently spend a lot on crap and fags (Which we intend to give up on in a week).

My only problem is that obviously when my OH goes on Maternity leave our income drops by (I reckon) £120 a week.

Your OH is smoking while pregnant? She needs to stop now!!

Actually, you're doing her no favours smoking around her. You both need to stop now.

Yeah we have tried to quit but it's proving hard. I will give the OH credit in saying that she has cut back by half. We are on holiday in a week for two weeks. So we'll both find it easier to quit then. I'm even considering Hypnosis.

Just read this and tell me it's hard to stop. Life will be so much harder if your baby is born with defects because you wouldn't stop smoking for it's sake.

    6. When in pregnancy do birth defects happen?

Birth defects happen before a baby is born. Inherited or genetic factors; things in the environment, such as smoking or drinking alcohol or not getting enough folic acid; and a woman's illness during pregnancy can cause birth defects. Most birth defects happen in the first three months of pregnancy, when the organs of the baby are forming. This is the most important stage of development. However, some birth defects happen later in pregnancy. During the last six months of pregnancy, the tissues and organs continue to grow and develop.
Not much point sorting out money when your baby could have far bigger problems :(

The OP didnt come here for a lecture on smoking from what I can see, even cutting down is better than nothing, any midwife would tell your partner that. Good luck with the quitting.

I would suggest going through your budget sheet again, but with your other half. She needs to sit down with you and you both go through what you spend on. If you are both not sure, before you try your trial run, try keeping a track of everything you spend on in a month...and i mean everything. Then you will be able to draw up a true budget sheet and see what you can cut back on.
