Hello everyone, have another question for you.
Bought Sainsburys basics stewing lamb to pop in my slow cooker and was wondering if anyone had some tasty ideas.
Thanks.

The best recipe is whatever you have to hand at the time. I'd cut the meat into bite-sized chunks, roll them in seasoned flour then brown in some fat/oil with some onions. Then deglaze the pan with some stock/tomato passata/whatever and chuck everything into the slow-cooker with whatever veggies you've got.
Some of the most accidental, slapdash beginnings can have very tasty endings. I once tried a stewing-steak recipe with dried apricots and it was a massive hit, the gravy was delish with mashed potatoes0 -
This is one of my favourites.0

stewing lamb tastes lovely in a curry cooked in slow cooker. Got afew recipes if you need them or use a jar and cheat if you don't have the spices, still tastes lovely. Lamb is nice in rogan josh sauce.0

Thanks everyone, they all sound yummy. I love curry but my kids don't so I may save a bit just for me! Just chucking in what I have at the time is what I usually do, but I don't usually buy lamb so it's all new.
Thanks again0 -
When making a lamb casserole, our favourite is to just dump it in the pot with a couple of whole carrots, a whole onion and some chicken stock (adding a wodge of garlic and mixed herbs, as I do with everything though).
After 4 hours, it tastes like the Greek Kleftiko I used to get in Southgate! YUM!0 -
If you are going down the casseole route, lamb responds well to a sprig or 2 of fresh rosemary or a teaspoon of dried.
If you cut up some potaotes into rounds about 1 to 1.5 cm thick and arrange them on the top of your casserole before it goes in the oven you will end up with something not unlike Lancashire Hotpot.0 -
I love lamb stew in every form

Is the basics stewing lamb the chunks on the bone? If so-just a tip-be careful when eating as I always find myself picking out little shards of bone as I eat, but it is worth it
I made a lovely recipe from Kitchen diaries last week with leeks and haricot beans and lamb, but that was boneless, am sure would work with on the bone though-brown lamb, sweat leeks until soft and sweet, add lamb, thyme, haricot beans (200g dried and soaked and cooked or 1 tin) and water to cover, cook for 2 hours (actually think you added the beans after an hour) finish with parsley mint and cream (I think I would have preferred without the cream tbh) We had this with bread
Also love lamb with barley, this is dead simple and you dont even really need to brown the meat, its sort of an irish stew type thing-chunks carrots onion and spuds (peeled, must be peeled
) lamb, couple handfuls pearl barley, cover with water (you can use stock but not necc when meat on the bone) Cook for a few hours in a low oven
Hotpot yummy yummy=onions lamb topped with spuds, but I have to say I do prefer that with boneless lamb.
I am sure I have about 60 other lamb recipes in my head but those ones are my favourite
Obviously curry works really well too with lamb, but again easier if boneless (I find it hard to pick out the shards from amongst rice etc-seems easier if its just a big stew in a bowl, with no extra carbs iykwim?)
Sorry-just seen you want to do in SC-I reckon they would all work, bar hotpot (sorry you need crispy spuds on the top) but I would add less water to them, I prefer my oven to slow cook things as I find the sauce reduces more and tastes richer and scrummier, but I know loads of OS people get really good results in the SC, I reckon the two top recipes would take at least 6 hours, but not sure. The lamb with barley does work in SC but def dont add too much wate, but keep an eye on it as the barley soaks up loads0 -
I had a dig around in my freezer this afternoon and found a large packet of what I think is stewing lamb but its 'on the bone'.I am going to bung it into the SC tomorrow any ideas as to what I can put in apart from carrots and onions which I have, to liven it up a bit .I really don't want to go out to the shops until after the weekend as it will be so busy and I'd rather use up what I have .I thought if I made the gravy with some bisto powder it might bring the flavour out a bit.I have some 'lazy-garlic ' in the cupboard, anyone tried it with stewing lamb.I just want to jazz it up a bit0
