i was given a pc but the floppy doesn't work. Can i swap it for the one in an old pc
. Is it just a case of taking the broken one out and putting the other one in and thats it, or is there more to it?

primeramikey wrote:agreed with browntoa on this,, but just make sure ya put the cable in the correct way round or else it wont work
or perhaps the cable in the new pc has been installed wrongly???
try turning the ribbon cable( wide and flat) over and turning on to see it that solves itThis is not an automated signature. I write this at the bottom of every message0 -
If the light says on when its booting up, the cable is the wrong way round, if there is no light or no sound, it could be unpluged, but if that dont work, just put the one from the old pc in there it should work :-)
Thanks Tom :-)0 -
Whatever you do, DON'T change the little power plug round the other way. Only try reversing the large, ribbon cable.
It's amazing how so little a component can fill a kitchen with thick, acrid smoke!!!!!! :rotfl:
Incidentally, if it's a Tiny brand PC you might find that the floppy drive unit is fine but the problem is with the connector on the Motherboard. Some are notorious for their on-board connectors failing. In which case you either need to be very dextrous with a soldering iron or it's a new Motherboard.0 -
Thanks everyone
Have swapped the floppys over,
Wombat. I have put the little power plug in the right way there was one one way it would go in (lucky for me)
But it still isn't working, am now trying to turn the ribbon over to see if that works.0 -
Alls well, have turned over the ribbon and it is now working. Thanks again everyone0
