i bought a car couple of weeks ago i part exchanged my car and they gave me 1000 for my car and i payed 400 on top , after the second day the glow plug light started flashing and i now have problems with starting the car now.

i took it back to the garage they said its got nothing to do with them they said when they sold the car everything was ok, i have had it diagnosed twice and the first time i changed the glow plugs £35 after it being diagnosed £20 and labour was £15.

that did not fix the problem i had it diagnose again £50 and know i have found out that the diesel pump needs replacing and the injectors have gone it could cost me up to a grand.

i went back to the garage and said by law sales of goods act they need to repair replace or refund they said no. what are me options

I dont understand why the glow plug light has come on for either a fuel pump or injectors?

IF that really is the case though, then the car must have had those issues when you bought it, so you'd have a case against the dealer.

Prepare for lots of hassle though...
  • Tell them you will sue in small claims court or you could get trading standards involved.

You have more protection buying from a dealer than you do buying from joe public.
  • As far as I know a dealer has to give you at least 3 months warrantee on a car you buy from them so it is up to them to sort it out. Trading standards is probably the place to go first otherwise the small claims court may be the way to go. Maybe its worth going the small claims route anyway - they'll probably do something when they receive the papers.

Now if only someone could provide an independant, reliable link to support that requirement.

  • The car i bought was a mondeo diesel 51plate 2litre tdci registered on 2002.

I also went back to the garage and they went having any of it, so am going to call trading standards and start procedures for the small claims court.

    Thanks for the advice

Quite a common issue on Mondeo Diesels of that age. Have a read through the search results.

Sometimes its the EGR valve, sometimes a camshaft sensor and other times it is the dreaded and costly injector issue.
