My citreon C3 went through mot las week, &190 to fix a couple of things. Last Saturday put in a new battery as it seemed a bit ropey.

Wednesday night, went out and got in the car, dead as a dodo. thought i had left the lights on but wouldn't start with jump leads. OH did a jump start and yesterday had a new starter motor fitted.

Drove it in the afternoon fine. Went to pick up my daughters last night and the battery light came on, then the airbag light came on, the wipers slowed down, steering almost locked and just managed to park it.

Now I need a new Alternator or rewind the old one.

All this in one week.

Anyone know how much it cost to rewind?

thanks

Pronably cheaper just to replace it with a new one.

If someone has put in a new battery, THEN a starter motor and it has actually turned out to be the alternator not charging the battery that was causing the problems, i'd be a very unhappy camper.

Me as well, the alternator should have been the first item to test ..

It definitely was the starter motor at that stage. Possibly the battery was alright but fell happier with a new one to get me through winter.

no one know about the rewind?

Too much of a coincidence in my opinion for it to have needed a starter motor and then a new battery and then finally an alternator

Sounds like it was an alternator all along

How do you know it was "definitely" the starter motor at that stage because I doubt it very much as you said the car was dead but you managed to jump start it, sounds like flat battery caused my bad alternator all along to me

i agree with the others, it sound like the mechanic started with the most common fail item and worked thier way up with a very poor grasp on vehicle diagnostics.
its easy to see if a battery is charging and easy to test a battery,so unless you saw the results of these test then i would be dubious of thier diagnostic skills.

it isnt totally unbeleivable, i have myself had an alternator, battery and starter motor all go down within hours of each other, it made me look and feel a right plonker but i know i wasnt wrong,so it may have been an unlucky case like mine. its only happened once in 10 years for me though.
