If the insurer has had the work needing doing assesed by their own tradesmen - then they will only offer the amount it would cost them as a company to get the work done.
Eg: If your quotes are more expensive - tough luck as their tradesman can do the work for less - it's the most they will pay.
This is known as the LOL - limit of liability - the amount it would cost the insurance company to get the work done.
This applies to everything - eg:accidental damage to a laptop, a laptop may cost £1000 from the shop you want to go to - but if they can get it a lot cheaper from their own supplier - they will only offer you that amount in settlement. Not really comping any more as too ill - but hoping to win £1000+ in 2017 in cash prizes - watch this space!0 -
I'd go back to the firms that quoted me and say "Insurance company say it's only worth ... so if you can do the job for that it's yours, otherwise I can't afford to have it done. So, if your best price can match that we've got a deal"0
