I'm not the best with Compofix but doesn't the OP have a lot of security apps installed or leftovers (I see norton, F-secure, avg, panda, kaspersky, etc). Maybe a good bet to get rid of them.0

well thanks to you all... seems to have worked... still had error trying to install kaspersky (1321 insufficient priveldges to modify....' ) but run it as administrator and all seems ok now.
It's been a long weekend with that laptop and I think I would have thrown it through the window without your help so thank you so much..........
Windows updates are still not installing.....so I fear there might still be problems with file permissions or installer..... error 80070005 and 80070057 - will check it out later as am soooo tired now!YNWA JFT96 :A0
