HSBC faster payment delayed

I previously had always found HSBCs FPS to be perfect, but around 9pm yesterday evening when I tried to send a payment to Birmingham Midshires it unexpectedly gave a notice saying "Your payment instructions have been received and the payee's account will be credited tomorrow. (H53)". It had not debited my account and I could see it was just sat there as a pending payment for the next day. I tried a similar thing from Halifax and that said it would be there within 2 hours, as I would have hoped, and debited the account immediately.
I checked after midnight and could see the Halifax money had indeed arrived, but at HSBC was still just pending to be sent. Some time today HSBC did finally send the payment but I have yet to see it arrive.
Has anyone else found FPS delays at HSBC or know what the delay is?

No need for sarcy comments. It is often important to know that funds will arrive on a certain day. Anyway back to the exchange of sensible information...
The payment from HSBC arrived at Birmingham Midshires described as "Deposit FASTER PMT - FDP" as opposed to the usual "Deposit FASTER PMT - SIP". Apparently FDP stands for Forward Dated Payment usually payed between midnight and 6am.
I am still wondering why HSBC sent it by that way and if anyone else has had similar experiences?0 -
Why not just email them and ask them?
At least that way you will get the right answer.:hello:0 -
Sorry for misunderstanding. At least they are still better than Halifax, which needed me to do a callback to verify, and then, despite saying it should be there in 2 hours, only got credited the next day, same as HSBC, but in their case losing me a days interest because they debited immediately. Also having made the one payment Halifax immediately went into the dreaded 'no FPS mode' which is really frustrating.Actually I am seriously annoyed - HSBC were always perfect for FP - If things are changing then it is very bad
I did message HSBC to see if they might explain the situation with them.0 -
Do HSBC call the account holder after to confirm the payment if sent via FPS ?0

I've never had a call - have had the odd glitch over weekends, but has never been important/substantial enough to chase it up.0

Hi, this happened to me today with HSBC. I tried to send a payment to Lloyds yesterday evening around 9pm and it said payment will be credited tomorrow (which is now today
). It left the HSBC account before 9am today, but has yet to arrive in Lloyds, anyone with a similar experience who might be able to give me an idea of when to expect it??

HSBC have had a few problems lately with their online systems. It may have gone by BACS but I doubt it. Have you re-checked details to make sure it was sent to right account?0
