Its unlikely your Insurers would pass the case to the police for this type of thing, they normally just decline the claim and blacklist you. This is generally looked upon as a good enough punishment.
If the issue with the hotel / food was genuine eg the hotels were full, your only option was to stay with relatives, the Insurers sent the money through automaticaly and you inadvertanly accepted it you may be able to argue the case and get the claim paid. If its a case of the hotels were not full and / or you physically asked them after the event for the money then it would look like you have exagerrated your claim / defrauded them and have no come back.
There are some cases (Notably the recent one in the news and mse of the woman whose home was burnt down and after it was rebuilt the Insurers discovered an undisclosed conviction) where as the Insurers instructed the builders they have to pay the costs. If you can confirm what the circumstancs were on hotel part of the claim then we can look up the case histories for you. that might apply0 -
What did he ask you to sign then, there must have been something on the document, pretty much the only document a contractor would request you sign would be a satisfaction note which would be clearly identified as such, this is in order to obtain payment and or satisfy performance requirements.
I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to rip the tiles either as someone is going to need to pay to put them back and guess who that is.
I'm aware that I would pay for ripping off a few tiles to proove to contractor that they tried to take me fora ride. But once I've prooved it - they will have to pay the cost and re- do the work again at their expence am I right? I know i can proove them wrong. I'm so bitter about it all that it seems i may be being a little too irational in trying to proove my point. Once I've prooved my point _ what have i actually prooven?0 -
Thanks for that. refereing back to your much earlier responce - u mentioned about informing my other insurers. my dispute is regarding home and contents insurerance. Are u saying that i HAVE to notify my car insurers, life insurers (all insurances that I may have ) and tell them that I have been black listed / going through dispute? and that if i don't and in the future have to make a calim - they would reject the claim? thanks0

Yes thats right.
Insurers ask if you havce ever been refused insurance, had a policy cancelled by the Insurers or a policy voided. If you do not inform the other Insurers and any future Insurers then these policies could also be voided most likely when you put in a claim and they discover it.0 -
Dacouch,
Tahnsk for your earlier comments re my obligation to tellother insurer. Do I have to call them up now n tell my active insurers this news. or do i wait untill it is due for a nenewal and then tell them before takling out a new policy? My cost of insurance would go up but do u have an idea of what %?
I'm trying to send u a private message but do't know how to ( still new to the website)0 -

This is a copy and paste of the reply I gave (I replied before I read your post)
It is best to inform the Insurers now, the chances are they will not do anything until the renewal date. They are then likely to either not offer renewal, slight chance they may just apply a load and / or increase your excess.0 -
The OP is clearly at it.
They thought the insurers repair to ensure betterment (i.e complete retiled bathroom instead of one wall, and new kitchen units instead of refitted) and then to finish it all off they committed fraud for non existent expenses
The OP should shut up now and count themselves lucky.0
