Hi,
Can anybody recommend an insurer who is friendly to houses close to water (by home is about 100 meters from a river).
Thanks

Does your home have a history of flooding?
Is your home very high above the flood plane?
Does your home show on the EA flood map? http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/31656.aspx0 -
You will be best using one of the comparison websites. If there is any risk of flooding lots of companies wont quote and this will save you lots of wasted calls.0

No history of flooding, however my house is on the edge of the map's flooding risk (although have flood defence).0 -
Assuming your home is not at major risk of flood then try Aviva (Either direct or through a local broker) they have a special flood map that is incredibly accurate. They commissioned a plane to fly other the UK with a very sensitive radar. This enables them to work out the exact height of each property and the chances of it flooding. It's that accurate that I have found clients where they will insurer one property as its slightly up a slope but will not cover the neighbooring house.
If you have no joy with Aviva then try a local broker (Not Swintons) as they normally have experience of insuring properties near your local river so know which Insurers to approach and how to present it to the Insurers0 -
Unfortunately, this is proving to be a pain. Aviva won't insure due to a 'high risk' and local broker couldn't come up with anything.
Does anybody know of any insurers who ask 'have you every been flooded' instead of are you near a river?0
