Are banks safe?

I now know 4 people who have had money taken from their account, 2 of them didn't get there money back (I think things had been bought through the internet using their bank details)
Now its got me wondering if my money would actually be safer at home with me? I use internet banking and can transfer money to savings accounts through there. So if someone got my bank details would they be able to take money from my savings account too (I never have much money in current account and need that open to pay bills so not too bothered about this its just my savings) What if I opened a savings account where you dont have a bank card and need to go in the bank to show ID or whatever to get money out so it isn't linked to my current account at all, I know some ISA's are like this. So what does everyone else do? are your savings linked to current account at all?

Just make sure your House insurance cover banking fraud and your sorted. Mine does.

If you keep your money at home someone breaks in while your gone that's the end of your savings. Don't think hiding it will help buglers are experts at turning everything upside down. If you put it in safe they'll just take the safe. Plus no interest in fact your money will devalue due to inflation.

If your using on-line banking I am sure you'll soon get annoyed every time you need to trek to the bank to do anything what if your ill and can't get to the bank.
