Energy useage software
Options
Hello All,
Does anyone know of any off the shelf software available whereby I can take meter readings at fairly random intervals, enter them into the computer and obtain statistics and graphs on energy useage?
I have kept a list of meter readings for over a year, taken on an as and when basis and I'd like to analyse these readings to see if there's any patter of useage. Hopefully, by seeing if there's a pattern we can take steps to bring energy useage down.

I just use Excel but any spreadsheet would do but you do need to set up a template with formulas0

look at imeasure.
thats what i use, i enter readings every week.0 -
If you have an Owl, you can get all this done for you.
(not helpful to you exactly - but others might find it in the future )Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

I have an owl but it has no way of linking to the PC.
I want to use readings taken from the gas/electricity meters themselves anyway, as this is the info Eon use and that's what my charges are based on.
Excel isn't a possibility as it costs money and would eliminate any potential savings I could make!
I'll have a look at imeasure.0 -

I have looked at the Owl USB on line, I assume you have one of these? If so, could you answer a couple of questions?
I have the bog standard CM119. Will the sensor from this worth with the Owl USB also?
Does the Owl USB continue to log data once the host PC is off? If it does, how many days of data will it store before it needs to be emptied?
I really didn't want to spend any more money but having seen the Owl USB online I think I want one...it is a gadget after all and if it saves energy I can justify it to Mrs Mung...!0 -
I want one too but haven't got one yet - I'm trying to answer most of the same questions as you! I feel an email to the manufacturer coming on.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

As above use imeasure:

You'd need to take imeasure costs with a pinch of salt if you are on a complex tariff for incentives and prices. Ebico works fine with imeasure because of their transparent pricing.
A spreadsheet is better for costs if you've an obfuscating tariff - try open office count (free on the openoffice site).
imeasure takes results on Sunday night / Monday morning.
I use both imeasure and my own spreadsheet to keep track of my usage.0 -
As far as I can see, the Owl USb only transfers an instantaneous measurement to the PC, it doesn't appear to log a cumulative reading.
If imeasure will only accept readings made on a sunday/monday it's probably no good for me. I need to be able to enter readings as and when owing to my disorganised lifestyle!0 -
I have an Eon monitor and I bought a cable from Ebay and can connect the monitor to my computer and get a graph of my usage using the software here
http://www.currentcost.com/software-currentcostgui.html
although I never use the monitor now, it is sitting in a cupboard somewhere
