Hi
I wasx wodering if anyone had replaced hot water tank with a combi boiler ( A-rated ) system.
I am considering this in my flat but was wondering what was the best boiler to get for under £1,000 and also who is the best company to carry out this work.
My hot water tank system is in a cupboard and it is a real hassle to keep setting it on a timer and switiching it on and waiting half an hour for the water to heat up.
I would rather have hot water when I needed it.

just googled combi boilers and there is a good selection on there, and reasonably priced as well. as for fitting i would use a reputable firm or plumber, then at least you know you have it done properly. i changed from a back boiler to a combi boiler and its the best thing i ever did0

Its probably going to cost you over £2000 to do the upgrade, balance this against the convenience you may get from the new system.
Whats so difficult of heating your water (I assume its gas) a couple of times a day, with a well insulated tank it should keep hot.
Be aware that the flow from Combis is not going to be that good and you will have to run a load off water off until it runs hot.
I don't think this is a money saving plan. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
If you have a timer on the existing set up, the why do you have to wait half an hour for it to heat up?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

A full tank of hot water @ 65C in a well insulated tank will lose between 2kWh and 3kWh per day. - say 7p to 10p.
Except that you don't actually 'lose' that heat as it warms the fabric of the house.
As the water in your tank is not at 65C for most of the day, if on timed, in practice the loses are far less than that figure.0 -
I've just had my CH repaired, the engineer said my boiler a Ravenheat was rubbish and parts expensive, he said next time i change i should look at ,
Valiant,
Worcester,
or Baxi / Main / Potterton all made by the same people.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

My parents have just had This done it cost them the best part of £4000. But they had a proper Worcester condensing Combi boiler. I would suspect the main saving of combi boiler is that they replace inefficient old boilers, rather than the latent inefficiency of the storeign hot water0

i had my boiler swapped in jan 09. had an old 20 year old boiler with tanks in the loft and a tank in the airing cupboard.i have a 3 bed house.
after a lot of research i opted for a combi boiler, mainly i wanted instant hot water etc.
i ended up picking a worcester 30si combi boiler. the guy that fitted it also only really fits worcester.
i also had an mt10rf wireless programmer/stat, 7 x trv,s, a magnaclean filter, obviously all old tanks removed in loft and airing cupboard, and a powerflush/inhibitor added etc.
the total bill was £1900 and the heating engineer supplied everything. it took 2 days.
i was getting quotes of upto £2600 for the same system/work.but this engineer was recomended to me by friends.
i havent had any trouble so far and recomend this boiler, the gas bills have really come down too in a big way so im making savings there too.0
